Geared Power’s UV Mask kills viruses at the source - the exhaled breath of infected individuals. With no filters, it is easy breathing and cool. Powering it by a separate USB battery pack, keeps it lightweight. Worn by infected patients in the Emergency Department, it prevents the spread of respiratory pathogens throughout the ward, keeping other patients and staff safe from exposure. Geared Power is preparing to file a De Novo application for FDA review and clearance.

Since the inception of Geared Power, our focus has been on the development of our IP portfolio for our gear-driven continuously variable transmission. During the pandemic we temporarily shifted our attention to help the public. Taking a six sigma approach to the risks of the pandemic, our Root Cause Analysis showed that each person that is infected becomes a virus factory. With a high severity due to it’s difficulty of detection and ease of infection, our Preventive Action solution was to inactivate the virus from the exhaled breath of infected individuals, even if asymptomatic, thus preventing any spread of the virus. Today, I’m excited to share the results of our efforts as we have been granted a European Patent (EP 4 126 257) for an Ultraviolet Decontaminating Mask. It utilizes a USB battery pack for 9 hours of continuous operation of the UV lamps with a free flow design ensuring no added work of breathing. We are just getting started!
