De Europese Commissie wil valse claims over duurzaamheid gaan verbieden. Dat is goed nieuws voor de duurzaamheidstransitie die we als Sustainability Partner willen versnellen! Eigenlijk zegt de Europese Commissie hiermee, wat we al een tijdje zeggen: “Claims over duurzaam ondernemen zijn alleen geloofwaardig (lees toegelaten) als ze ook eenvoudig verifieerbaar zijn voor alle stakeholders” ✏️ Hieronder de belangrijkste elementen van het ontwerpvoorstel: ✅ Bij het maken van claims (zoals Net Zero 2030) dienen bedrijven hun toewijding tot het implementeren van verbeteringen binnen hun waardeketens te bewijzen. (In plaats van uitsluitend te vertrouwen op compensatie) ✅ Bedrijven dienen te verduidelijken of een claim van toepassing is op het gehele product of alleen op specifieke onderdelen er van. Zo kunnen ze bijvoorbeeld niet "Koolstofneutraal" claimen als alleen de verpakking dat is, maar de inhoud niet. Het verzamelen van levenscyclusgegevens zal hiervoor dus cruciaal zijn. ✅ Negatieve wisselwerkingen dienen ook te worden meegenomen. Bijvoorbeeld wanneer een vermindering van het waterverbruik, leidt tot verhoogde uitstoot van broeikasgassen. 📋 Merken & bedrijven zullen dus bewijs moeten leveren, voordat ze hun beweringen openbaar maken: 1. Laat claims onafhankelijk verifiëren & onderbouwen door wetenschap. 2. Zorg voor specificiteit, nauwkeurigheid zonder misleiding. 3. Overdrijf het voordeel niet, richt je op belangrijke milieueffecten. 4. Wees transparant over de negatieve effecten, als ze aanwezig zijn. 5. Lever proactief betrouwbaar, begrijpbaar en verifieerbaar objectief bewijs op maat van al je stakeholders. 💸 Straffen voor het niet voorleggen van bewijs kunnen bestaan uit boetes, inbeslagname van inkomsten & tijdelijke uitsluiting van openbare aanbestedingen en overheidsfinanciering. ⚖️ Dit voorstel wordt uiteraard nog besproken & kan aangepast worden door het Europees Parlement. Sarah Parent van Go Forest is écht wel een beetje de lijm die impact ondernemend België met elkaar verbindt. Dankzij haar leerde ik toppers als Tim Sterckx, Gilles De Backer & Wim De Bruyne kennen. 🤝 Samen besloten we om de aller eerste editie van #Accelerate te organiseren: Een event om like-minded mensen met elkaar te verbinden, om zo de duurzaamheidtransitie te versnellen. 👉 Als je de juiste mensen bij elkaar brengt, dan ontstaat er vast iets moois... én dat voelde je gister avond!
