It’s a wrap! What an energizing visit to Tashkent, Uzbekistan! Last week, I attended the second #Tashkent International Investment Forum and participated in a panel to discuss how #PPPs and #privateinvestment in infrastructure can improve people's lives, increase competitiveness, and boost #economicgrowth. Private investments bring innovation, efficiency, and higher returns. We agreed that successful projects require balanced risk allocation, transparency, safety, environmental sustainability and climate adaptation and mitigation measures. The sidelines of the forum provided an excellent opportunity to deepen our collaboration with the Government of Uzbekistan, a key strategic partner on PPPs. Thank you to Mr. Shukrat Vafaev, Director of Strategic Reforms for a warm welcome and other colleagues including Mr. A Inoyatov, Minister of Health, Mr. A. I’m pleased to share that IFC signed a new mandate to act as Lead Transaction Advisor to the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan for an Imaging Diagnostics PPP. The Project envisions attracting a private partner to finance, construct, equip, recruit and train personnel and deliver imaging diagnostics services for a network of public hospitals in three regions of the country. This is a highly developmental mandate to provide better patient care and improved access to health services for the people of Uzbekistan. Very proud of IFC’s role in launching Timor-Leste’s first public-private partnership (PPP) to build a state-of-the-art port outside of the capital city of Dili. The port already has directly created about 500 jobs and will contribute indirectly to even more jobs. It will also serve as a key ingredient in advancing trade and investment for this island-nation and for the region. #Egypt has prequalified 17 consortia for its water desalination #PPP to be invited to the tendering process of the development of a number of sea #waterdesalination plants across the country powered by #renewableenergy sources. Supported by IFC PPP Advisory, The Sovereign Fund of Egypt, and EBRD, the project is part of Egypt's strategy to increase the desalinated #watersupply by 8.8 million cubic meters daily by 2050. The initial plants, to be located in the governorate of Marsa Matrouh, will benefit the residents of the governorate and adjacent areas on Egypt's north coast.
