What is the Maximum LinkedIn Character for Your Summary? 12 Top Profile Updates for 2017

LinkedIn has character limits in each field you update such as your headline (Free digital real estate!) Take advantage of properly branding your profile.

Did you know when someone Googles your name, your LinkedIn profile will show up 90% of the time on page 1 of Google. It is important to brand your page correctly and professionally!

LinkedIn counts a ‘character’ to include letters, numbers, spaces, and punctuation. The new profile interface only shows the first 2 lines of your summary, before a reader has to click SEE MORE to see the full version. That means you have 200-250 characters (or about 25-42 words) to make your opening compelling.

1. Your name: First Name: 20 characters and Last Name: 40 characters.

2. Your headline has a 120 character limit.

3. The Summary in your profile has a maximum 2,000 character limit. This is a very important area you want to take advantage of showcasing.

4. Recommendations has a 3,000 character limit.

5. Publisher Post Headlines have a 100 maximum characters limit.

6. The body of each published post you can make are up to 40,000 characters.  This is a lot. Four to six paragraphs is plenty for an average post.

7. The website URL has 256 maximum character limit.

8. Be sure to createyour own VANITY URL: 5-30 characters after www.linkedin.com/in/' ^______ Your custom URL can have 5-30 letters or numbers. You cannot use spaces, symbols, or special characters.

9. Your position title has a 100 maximum character limit.

10. Your position description has a 200 character minimum (2000 maximum characters).

11. Be sure to capitalize on your INTERESTS.

12. Be sure to capitalize on your SKILLS. Most people do not take the time to put what they want to be known for. Take advantage of every piece of "digital real estate" here.

Though text limit is 600 maximum for updates, note that if you select to also post on Twitter from LinkedIn, only the first 140 characters will show on your Twitter post.

LinkedIn has increased the number of characters allowed in the summary from 2000 to 2600. Everywhere online is saying 2000 but checking mine, I have Characters (including spaces) 2596 ----- Characters (without spaces) 2175 ---- Words 435. See https://www.linkedin.com/in/mattstonemedia/

The LinkedIn headline has expanded to 220 characters recently. It's no longer 120 characters. You can learn more about it here: https://www.ngcareerstrategy.com/how-to-write-the-perfect-linkedin-headline/

I have drafted text for my Summary/about section - it is 408 characters but I get an error message saying I'm over my character limit but this should be 2000, right? Anyone have any thoughts please?
