Simple ways to inspire your staff

Gallup’s most recent report on the state of the American workplace revealed that only 30% of the U.S. workforce is engaged in their work and enjoy their jobs. The other 70% — don’t enjoy their jobs!

Carmine Gallo, contributor to Forbes.com says these workers are “not engaged or ‘actively disengaged,’ meaning they hate their jobs or, at best, are unenthusiastic about their roles.” Most of these employees are looking for some inspiration…and that’s up to their boss, founder, or CEO!

Inspiring your staff is not as hard as you might think. Here are three simple ways I like to encourage inspiration at Artisan.

1. Play “Pick 3”

When the busy season arrives, I encourage everyone to pick his or her most pressing priorities. Select your top three “must do’s” for the day and forget about the rest. Encourage employees to focus on accomplishing those three things; the rest can wait until the next day.

2. Provide Birthday Lunch

One of the favorite morale boosters at Artisan is as simple as bringing lunch in. We celebrate with catered lunch at least every one to two months. It’s a simple way to show you care and doesn’t cost a lot of money, especially if you have a small staff. Plus, it’s a great way to support local businesses in your community when you shop local for lunch.

3. Celebrate Success

Similar to providing lunch for birthdays and special occasions, make sure you celebrate the “wins” your team has. For the past three years, Artisan has been ranked among the top 2% of staffing agencies nationwide by Inavero. When awesome things like this happen, it’s time to take the staff out to celebrate! Fun team building experiences like cooking classes are always a favorite.
