Many companies are currently facing the unique demands of remote workforce. Tools for keeping teams productive, tools for collaboration. New ways of keeping morale up and maintaining team spirit – at a time where personal stress is high, and employees are facing many new challenges balancing family needs and isolation.
It’s been interesting to see how different companies have managed the transition to a safer workplace model. A and B teams, Blue and Red teams to reduce onsite resources and affect greater physical distancing, at one end of the model. Through to large Telcos, with their own Cyber business units (who have the tools and VPN bandwidth) who have struggled to setup a remote workforce model due to the cultural shift needed, at the other end.
This type of change is built on trust.
Trust in your network.
Trust in the tools you use.
Trust in the culture of your workforce.
I started working remotely 15 years ago with IBM. Very different then to now. No video conferencing, limited band-with through dial-up. Luckily, we had z-series and i-series to keep us productive, contracts to code, and batch to run via remote terminals. I’ve since worked in many global roles which have meant, long days working with teams across many time-zones. I simply could not work the hours I have from a traditional office, and still be married – know my children, family and friends. And research supports the enterprise value in working from home. Data captured by IBM researchers prior to COVID-19 reported remote employees were 13-24% more productive than their in-office colleagues. And recent LinkedIn research reported 35% increase in productivity for remote workers during COVID-19.
Working in Cybersecurity for IBM I’ve seen a lot of advancements, making my remote contribution easier and easier over the years. The last 5 years have seen some incredible leaps in Endpoint Cyber tools, managed via Cloud, and created new ways to collaborate, authenticate and encrypt with trust. I feel very privileged to work for a company that walks the talk – uses their own software across a worldwide enterprise to secure our own business, and for some of the largest companies in the world. I can be confident talking to our clients about the value of our products, because we use them, and we know the lab guys who are constantly finding ways to make the user experience more seamless. And because we use it, we trust it.
And we’re offering MaaS360 to any school, company or enterprise who needs our help, so you can see for yourself.
