Reimagining Education in Lesotho Through Technology

Last week, Lesotho took an important step toward shaping the future of education by hosting the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) Tech4Ed Technical Assistance co-design workshop. The workshop marked the beginning of a transformative journey to leverage technology in strengthening our education system.

The #Tech4Ed Initiative comes at a significant moment when Lesotho’s education landscape is embracing technology as a catalyst for delivering quality, inclusive, and relevant education. With technology, we have the opportunity to expand access, strengthen data-driven decision-making, and create multiple pathways for learning—particularly for vulnerable children.

Over the next 18 to 24 months, Lesotho will benefit from targeted support under the GPE Tech4Ed Initiative, coordinated by UNICEF and EdTech Hub , along with seven other pilot countries: El Salvador, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Lao PDR, Malawi, Tajikistan, and the Maldives.

The initiative will focus on three key areas:

  • Harnessing technology for inclusion and equity – ensuring every child, regardless of background, can access quality learning opportunities.
  • Strengthening data and systems – enabling the Ministry of Education to use timely, reliable information for better planning and service delivery.
  • Advancing learning outcomes – using innovation to improve teaching and learning so that no child is left behind.

Through the co-design workshop, Lesotho began developing a clear workplan that aligns with our education sector strategy and sets the stage for sustainable, system-wide transformation. UNICEF Lesotho extends its gratitude to the Global Partnership for Education for this strategic opportunity. This partnership is helping to reimagine Lesotho’s education future, building resilient, inclusive systems powered by technology.
