Mr. Jack Dorsey, Would you do humanity a favor and shut down Twitter please.
Twitter lost $2 Billion of public investors money, Has no utility for a marketer, and is getting the crazies out #shutdowntwitter

Mr. Jack Dorsey, Would you do humanity a favor and shut down Twitter please.

जलते घरों को देखने वालों, फ़ूस का छप्पर आपका है ,आग के पीछे तेज़ हवा है, बाकि मुक़द्दर आपका है।

Literal translation —

While you watch a burning house, think about your own thatch roof. Raging Flames have a strong wind behind them, Rest is your destiny.

Disclaimer - This is a live research to build a case for digital reforms. The statement #shutdowntwitter should be seen in the context of the prelim case study done by the researcher. There have been some great comments here and via email and we will update the study soon. Another thing is, even if you don't like it please leave a comment "why" and if you like it then definitely leave a comment. We want people to read the prelim report and then make an opinion than clicking "like" just looking at the poster and a prejudice on a certain set of politicians- The same practice we want to change.

I’m an Indian New-Yorker for more than a decade now, love the city, same Love I have for the city I grew up in - Delhi NCR, or Born in - Hyderabad or My grandparents come from - Buxar.

I have burnt midnight oil on wall-street tech, and have always worked with Dodd-Frank and Sarbanes-Oxley staring at me. The system I built were strong on data. And we aren't kidding there, every ounce of data is backed by strong regulation with accountability.

Our systems settled tens of thousands transactions daily, checked every kind of risk, regulation violations that might come tagged with it and then calculated alphas on every portfolio movement that too with 12 basis points precision.

Those systems were only handling a few $100 billion portfolios, affected a handful of investment funds and bonuses of a few Portfolio Managers and Analysts.

Even at that scale, every piece of data and information we sent out was backed by data, evidence, pure science, and technology.

And that’s how I know technology, when controlled, with right checks, balances and accountability, it really can change the world.

Technology such as digital running over the Internet is potent. Many folds wide reaching than nuclear, digital technology messes with the mind, and if right information backed by data with right checks and balances is not built into the system and goes to unsuspecting recipients, over the period of time things can be crazy disastrous.

Why we want Twitter dead?

Oh boy! We have flirted with twitter for our own digital marketing campaigns since last one year. And it's unbelievable to see a system so flawed, dangerous at so many levels still running with all the wrong signals coming out for future.

All our findings are compiled in a 3100 words prelim research here.

Why 3100? — Well, That’s our way of doing things. detailed multi-page research in a story format with right data-points and evidence built over time and put out carefully.

We encourage everyone to go through it, it’s a good read and will fill you up with what you might need to understand the “why” of it.

yesterday one of the world leaders called a federal judge “so called Judge” and got away with it, he said right after branding people of certain religion evil and put the onus of hypothetical miss-happenings in “future” on the poor judge -who just needed time to “judge” the constitutionality of recent orders.

So legislative “hypothetically” just now pulled judiciary by his collar, demoralizing it to ground and said this branch now really doesn’t mean anything in ‘his definition of democracy” legitimized by one vote, many say influenced tremendously by fakebook marketing.

This incident is not one-off, we watch political processes very closely for India and USA, and boy the patterns coming out are so similar.

The pattern we can attest to is — Elections are won by Fakebook marketing, and then countries ruled by executive orders backed by twitter style trolling, both online and offline. And aligned news running campaigns in hashtag format.

Anything which could come between, including the whole editorial process, parliamentary debates, judiciary weighing in and the spirit of democracy riding on intellectuals is pretty much crushed beneath this mega digital storm of PSFB (Pebble Sized Froth Balls).

History has proven time and again when institutional checks and balances are subjugated what kind of people have taken center stage, and what kind of damage is inflicted on humanity.

When we were kids there was a joke doing the round.

Mr. Lalu Yadav (a prominent politician from a very backward state in India my grandparents come from) once got a call from Mr. Bill Clinton.
Clinton :- Mr. Lalu, give us Bihar for 10 years and we will make it America.
Lalu :- Hehe, give me America for 10 months and I will make it Bihar.

I can see this joke coming true.

And it's a warning for everyone and this has happened before and happening right now with multiple democracies- Next, you will see intellectuals and their concentrations more and more sidelined and systematically hunted.

Religious militia taking bigger and larger public spots.

Skirmishes invoked over natural resources, enemy created and bullied. Nuclear threats looming all over.

Communities divided, with a tiny, regular blunt blows on the fabric of community harmony.

A divided world, filled with hatred, fighting their own shadows, will look for a leader who can troll them to the wonderland. People will start shutting their brains down and go down the path of devotion to their cult leader, promising the caliphate.

Many would argue — Twitter is only the messenger. No Sir, the AEDES mosquito(In Picture) is also a messenger, the point is, bigotry, hatred, trollism is bred on twitter. And there is no real way to control it without fumigating the carrier.

More than a decade old Twitter has benefited only a few including

  • It's private investors who offloaded with mega profits right around IPO with prices between $45–$60 based on fake valuations. Now pension and public funds are holding it right now at $17, essentially transferring public money to a few investors.
  • A certain kind of politicians and their mega PR running from the shadows who value 140 words rhetoric way more than intellectual rigor and academic discipline — which normally takes way more space.

Twitter has wasted time and money of a lot of marketers(like me) trying to latch on its “engaged Users”, and has wasted generations of journalists now painting “100 shades of poop” all around then doing any real journalism.

So Mr. Jack Dorsey, I know you started this with good intention, I’m an entrepreneur as you were at that point of time and I feel you. But see, the world is falling apart with your innovation creating a wormhole at the core.

Please shut it down, humanity from the future is looking up to you.

UPDATE - Getting some great comments, instead of replying individuals breaking it down.

  1. Free Speech Argument - The research provides few example- in the name of Free Speech, Mega Institutional PR machinery operates from behind the shadows.

To protect Free Speech Twitter would have to separate and take down all the PSFB(PR Marketer and rings) accounts and keep only the BWM(Real folks with free speech) accounts. And that's the question I have asked Mr. Dorsey to base Twitter's evaluation on. Can he do that? In the country where Transport minister just conceded that 30% drivers licenses are fake - For someone sitting in silicon valley without repurcurssions what are the incentives? A country might burn, who cares.

2. Should politicians, office bearers be allowed on social media? - No, See these are mega influencers, most of those (look around for examples) don't have the intellectual rigor and academic discipline keeping their moral compass.

The elections are now billions of dollar business, with massive future contracts at stake, and marketing machinery can be deployed on a purely ROI basis. And if you get a platform without repercussions, it's a BINGO!!

We believe politicians, political parties, office bearers should communicate through "Press Releases" under oath, via the formal iterative process of "Press Releases".

Right now Fakebook and Twitter has taken over the parliamentary process. Look around India parliaments haven't worked for years, Demonetization debate is run everywhere but not in parliament.

Why? because when you communicate to citizens via a parliamentary process, through press releases which again goes through editorial and consultancy/due diligence process a lot of garbage is filtered, an interpretation is also added, everything is under oath and your seal and can be challenged in the courts.

Twitter and fakebook have killed all this and now you see, monsters raging around. (look for the examples posted in the research).

If you think political supreme leaders need "Twitter" to voice their opinion - God bless us.

3. Twitter has a utility - Yes it might have as on the brochure, but people need to look at what is the cost of the free service? The 200 million users on it (including me) let them IPO at $45 shooting till $60. The evaluations were flawed with PSFB and BWM accounts clubbed, now without any marketing ROI its disintegrating at $17 and who owns these stocks? it might be your own 401K fund, check TWTR ticker.

4. Free Digital Marketing Advice e.g buy that book etc. - We have broken that orbit, known the cranks and shafts, have talented people working with us who have done those things. We know the theory behind mellons and rubberbands, and the concept of happy gooey virality. It's a conscient decision not to run our organization like that. We are preaching responsible tech sensitive to local vulnerabilities. We can also start throwing pumpkin with a Go-Pro(Cheaper versions) for para jumping and make it viral.

Will keep it updated, please keep commenting, it helps a lot to build a case.

The article is now updated with "First Amendment" arguments and guidelines proposed to twitter to behave responsibly. https://ballotboxindia.com/ap/jack-dorsey-shut-down-twitter/5182097549/ Twitter recent statement - "Trump's tweets are good for its business" highlights the problem with twitter aiming to break news faster than any other service in the world.
