A Lady and Her Child
What does the science say? What do scientists support? What do you think? What do you know? I will tell you what I know. I have been a woodsman since the time I was old enough to spit. My grandfather and uncles taught me how to track animals, from their prints in the dirt. I know the difference between various animal scat. I know better than to track an elk that has diarrhea. I have seen many animals up close and personal. I have crawled down on all fours up to within 10-yards of grazing elk. I have waddled up to about 10-feet from deer feeding off low hanging branches. I have seen elk stand on their hind legs reaching to feed off moss hanging from branches of trees. I have been only 50-feet from a Grey Wolf in the wild. I have been within 3-feet of a cougar in the wild. I have seen bear climb trees and stand on their hind legs, while sniffing in the air. I have had deer pass within 3-feet of me, as they passed me bye. I have seen coyotes, wolverines, badgers, lynx, fox, porcupines, beaver, and many more up close and personal, in the wild. I have been warned by rattle snakes to keep away. I was a hunter, until my hips had to be replaced. I have hunted, stalked, and bagged countless number of deer and I once bagged a 6-point Elk (Western Count). When I tell you I have seen animals in the wild you can believe me. Why would I lie to you about such things? When I hunted I always scouted in the spring time and fall time, before hunting season.
I was on a scouting trip, in my 1967 Jeepster, during a fall scouting trip for deer in the foothills of Mt. St. Helens. It was mid-August, sometime in the mid-1990’s. I was traveling on a gravel road (heavily forested on both sides of the road), on level ground idling down the road. The tires would pick up pebbles from the road and toss then to the side. It sounded much like Elk or Deer climbing up or down a rocky incline kicking up pebbles with their hoofs. It was after sunrise and about 100-yards ahead of me, on the left side of the road something caught my eye. I wasn’t, at first, sure what it was. At first I thought it was an elk, but then I looked closer. As I intently scrutinized what I was looking at it quickly became obvious it was not an elk, or deer or any other animal. It appeared to be an adult and a child standing beside one another. No, they were not human. Wait a minute, I thought, they are hairy all over their bodies. Those weren’t people I was looking at. Then it dawned on me I was looking at a mother and child Sasquatch- Bigfoot. But, as I looked at the objects, with the sun behind me, I saw what appeared to be a 6-foot plus something standing by the edge of the road, with a child (~3.5 ft.) by its side. The adult was very cautious, as it eyed me and the child had its head facing me. They looked like they were thinking about crossing the road. They were very cautious, the most cautious of animals I have seen in the wild. I quickly ascertained them to be an adult and an adolescent Sasquatch. I had not traveled more than 10-feet toward them when they both darted across the road, through the underbrush, and quickly disappeared on the other side.
They were both very hairy. Their straight, course, brown hair (about the color of Elk) and was about 10-inches long. Their bodies were completely covered with hair, except for their faces, hands and feet. They were extremely fast, and wasted no time disappearing into the woods. I didn’t feel threatened at all by their presence. How did I know, after a few moments, that I was looking at possibly a mother Sasquatch and her child?
While I was still in grade school I remember an uncle talking about Indian Legends of a Big Foot (Central Oregon). I had read President Roosevelts account of a Big Foot in a book he wrote. During my junior year at the University of Washington (spring of 1969) Jack, Bo and I made plans to take a few weeks during the summer (1969) and go to British Columbia looking for Big Foot. Those plans came to an abrupt end when I received my Draft Notice at the end of May 1969. I never imagined I would ever see a Sasquatch in the wild. The scouting trip, where I did see “The Lady and Her Child” I was scouting for Deer and Elk and never imagined (in my wildest dreams) I would actually see a Sasquatch. I post this in hopes that others that have encounters with Sasquatch will also post their sighting, no matter how long it has been since the sighting. Don’t be afraid of the scientists, who prefer to remain sceptics, no matter how compelling the evidence.
What I saw, that fall day in the mid-1990’s, does not depend on any belief system. It does not depend on whether I believe or don’t believe Sasquatch exits; nor does it depend on what you believe. It does not depend on what scientists believe or don’t believe. It does not depend on what scientists say or on what scientists support or don’t support. It does not depend on what you know or don’t know. I was not searching for Sasquatch. I just happened to be at the right place and the right time to witness “a lady and her child” crossing the road; one minute earlier or one minute later and I would have missed the entire encounter. I saw what I saw.
Below is a sketch I personally drew of what I saw at the side of that gravel road. (open the image in a new tab to get the full size picture) I have never told anyone the exact location of my sighting because people would want to search the area in hopes they could shoot one and I would not endanger any Sasquatch life in such a way. Scientists don’t need a “body” to prove what exists.
