Out of all the brands that have come out of China, there is one brand that has really stood out for me in the last few years and that company is Huawei. Huawei has risen up out of obscurity to be one of the most prestigious companies in the world. In 2018, Huawei was the only Chinese company to be featured in Forbes Most Value Brands.

The question is, how has Huawei done this? How have they become so successful?

I believe we can attribute Huawei’s amazing growth and performance to characteristics found with seasoned top ballet dancers.

Huawei: A Story of Perseverance

In 2015, Huawei released a powerful (to some a little gross) visual of Huawei’s commitment to hard work, diligence, and perseverance. It featured a ballerina’s feet - one without the shoe and one without to illustrate that behind the polished cover is a lot of blood, sweat, tears, and blisters.

Attributes of Companies that Survive

Just like professional ballet dancers, Huawei has demonstrated very similar attributes in the face of mounting pressures from competition, false accusations, COVID, and scaling for further growth. 

These qualities are:

  1. Patience 
  2. Dedication 
  3. Perseverance
  4. Humility
  5. Confidence
  6. Endurance
  7. Awareness

Practice Makes You Perfect and Stronger

Watch this video of the Shanghai Ballet company to see a lot of these attributes in play. It truly shows that from the bitterness of winter comes the sweet fragrance of spring - through hard work, the company is bearing abundant fruit. This spirit of survival was beautifully summed up by the Shanghai ballet dancers recently and is how #Huawei managed to survive and thrive in the past year, despite facing so many challenges.

Striving to Help Others in Need

Another amazing attribute of this company is Huawei’s generosity. Recently during the COVID19 crisis, Huawei announced a global action plan to help customers around the world fight the virus with Cloud and AI services. Part of Huawei’s action plan against the Coronavirus was to provide free AI and close services through the Huawei Cloud division, while recruiting partners around the world to fight the pandemic together.

Despite Huawei’s continued geopolitical challenges, their focus and persistence – just like the ballerina – helped Huawei survive and thrive in difficult times.

This is truly a case of Huawei surviving, striving, and thriving in difficult times.
