Here's another game design from my past: "Hook- NES & Gameboy"
This game was truly amazing to have been a part of.
We (Painting by Numbers) were approached by our publisher (Ocean) to make the game for the upcoming movie "Hook". This was of course a huge deal. Robin Williams, Steven Spielberg, Dustin Hoffman- a massive movie IP to work on.
We got to read the script and received some amazing concept art to inspire us.
This was my first experience of the perks that came along with high profile titles, as we were flown to LA and got to walk around the incredible movie sets. Absolutely amazing!
The game design was loose as they tended to be back then, and includes really bad art (by me). This document was then sent to Ocean, and Sony Imagesoft, and even on to Amblin for approval. Makes me shudder to think who may have seen these illustrations. ;)
While visiting the set's and the Imagesoft team, I met an interesting character in LA who was producing the game on Sony's side. Long hair, relaxed demeanor, cool guy. Years later after moving to the states, and joining SCEA our paths crossed once more. He was the director of my studio, and he returned this document to me. Thanks Allan. :)
This was great period to make games. A shout out to the team that helped make the game happen- Chris, Mark, and of course Steve. Not forgetting Gary's executive management at Ocean, and Allan's at Sony.
The game won awards and did great. The coolest thing for us however was when we heard that Mr Williams & Mr Spielberg played the game and loved it.
Good times!
