The current issue of National Geographic magazine features a fascinating article on Genius. While we have yet to discover all the contributing factors to genius we do know intelligence, creativity and perseverance are fundamentals. Another piece of solving the genius brain puzzle lies in the corpus callosum. Apparently this connecting bundle of fibers that joins the right and left hemispheres, is substantially more in the genius brain than the normal brain. When the genius brain is at work there's significantly more connectivity and communication between hemispheres, greater flexibility in the the thought processes, more creativity and contributions from different parts of the brain. The genius brain just might be a great metaphor for transforming healthcare.

Everyday we work with health systems who are committed to providing evidence and value based care, improving safety and efficiencies, enhancing patient experience and engaging populations to better manage their health. Policy reform, clinical automation, rapid adoption of digital health and cognitive technologies and fast tracking research findings into main stream care delivery are just a few of the tactics we observe in health systems that are transforming.

Improving health systems is as complex as it gets, there are so many moving parts and the system is never at rest. Progress is being made. Around the globe health systems are re-imagining the care team and the care environment of the future. In most countries initiatives are underway across the entire spectrum of a health system however, often disjointed. To accelerate system transformation, many different and concurrent approaches and initiatives are required. Moreover these approaches and initiatives must be intrinsically and powerfully connected. Like a genius brain.
