Continuing Our Progress – Taking Action Against Racism

Across Accenture, we continue to take actions against racism and inequality. Below is a note I sent today to Accenture people, announcing our new goals to increase the representation of our African Black and Coloured colleagues in South Africa and our Black colleagues in the UK by 2025 as well as our mandatory training to identify and speak up about racism. We believe these goals will help make Accenture more inclusive, diverse and representative of the communities where our people are living and working. Together we are acting, we are leading and we will continue to drive change.

To: All Accenture People

As I talk with our people around the world, I remain inspired by your stand against racism—and with each other. We are continuing to take actions that advance our unwavering commitment to equality and justice for all, with zero tolerance for racism, bigotry and hate of any kind.

As a follow up to our recent actions in the US, I am writing today to share our new goals to increase the representation of our African Black and Coloured colleagues in South Africa and our Black colleagues in the UK by 2025. We believe these goals will help make Accenture more inclusive, diverse and representative of the communities where our people are living and working.

Specifically, in South Africa we will:

  • Increase the representation of our African Black colleagues from 45% (currently 670 people) to 68%; and increase the representation of our Coloured colleagues from 6% (currently 96 people) to 10%.
  • Increase the representation of our African Black, Coloured and Indian managing directors from 39% (24 people) to 70%, with a specific focus on African Black and Coloured representation.

In the UK we will:

  • Increase the representation of our Black colleagues from 4% (currently 420 people) to 7%.
  • More than double the number of our Black managing directors (currently 8 people).

Today we are also announcing new goals in South Africa to increase the representation of women managing directors from 28% (currently 14 people) to 50%, and to increase the representation of people with disabilities from 0.8% (currently 12 people) to 2%—both by 2025.

To achieve these goals, we are developing comprehensive plans that include recruiting, retention, staffing, sponsorship and advancement. We are also continuing to monitor ethnic representation across all races, to help ensure we maintain our diverse representation at all levels, while making progress in the areas where we have significant gaps.

In addition, our new mandatory "We Stand Together Against Racism" training is now available in the US, coming soon in the UK and Ireland, and will be available in South Africa and several more countries this year. Anyone at Accenture can take the training, which helps us call out racism for what it is and address it wherever it happens.

These actions to fight racism are essential to ensuring that Accenture is a place where everyone can succeed both personally and professionally, has equal opportunity and feels they truly belong.

We continue to recognize that racism is an issue everywhere, although the context is very different in every country. People across Accenture, including in Australia, Canada, France, Ireland, Japan, Latin America, New Zealand, the Nordic countries, the UK, and the US, among others, have held candid conversations about racism to listen and learn from each other. I am encouraged by the outpouring of support.

Thank you for everything you do to help strengthen our culture of equality.

Best Regards,

Julie
