Ingredients Needed for Cinnamon Applesauce

It doesn't require a lot to create the most delicious cinnamon applesauce in the world! Gather the following components:

  1. Apples: duh! ;) Always pick fresh apples for tasty applesauce in your kitchen!
  2. Lemons: prevent oxidation and add a vibrant citrusy taste to your recipe.
  3. Ceylon Cinnamon: Homemade applesauce is incredible, but it's even more amazing with ground cinnamon.
  4. Water: Add it to help steam and soften the apples in the microwave.

Here you have it! The ingredients for an easy, delicious homemade applesauce recipe. Add granulated sugar only if you need it. This means that every batch of applesauce you create is distinct and varies according to the authentic sweetness and sugars in the apples.

Adjust the sweetness to your liking.

Taste and add sugar at the end, or omit it completely for sugar-free applesauce without added sugar. It's all up to you. How sweet you want to go!

Special Equipment for Making Amazing Applesauce

Yes, it would help if you had a foley mill for this. I use mine, which my mother gifted me three years ago. It's a real work horse! It still blends everything like a clock. Here’s all the equipment that is great for applesauce.

  1. Apple Peeler/Corer/Slicer: Use it to peel, slice, and core apples fast. You’ll end up with uniform slices,  and it helps with even cooking.
  2. Heavy-Duty Pot: A good-quality pot is a must. It guarantees uniform heating and lowers the chances of the applesauce burning. A stainless steel pot is good to go.
  3. Immersion Blender or Potato Masher: With it, you puree the applesauce directly in the pot. It eliminates mess and makes it easy to achieve your desired consistency.
  4. Food Mill or Fine Mesh Strainer: For an ultra-smooth applesauce, a food mill is excellent! It removes any skins or seeds left behind. A fine mesh strainer is lovely, too, in this regard.
  5. Slow Cooker or Instant Pot: Let it cook until the apples are soft and ready to be mashed.
  6. Digital Thermometer:  Do you plan to preserve your applesauce? The thermometer will tell you when your apples reach the suitable temperature for safe canning.
  7. Wooden Spoon: Stir the applesauce as it cooks. A wooden spoon is gentle on the pot. It scrapes the bottom well and prevents sticking.
  8. Jar Funnel: Transfer the applesauce into jars with it. This is a good choice when you’d like to can your applesauce.
  9. Mason Jars: For storage, pick mason jars the sizes you’d like.
  10. Ladle: For scooping the applesauce into jars or containers.

When we typically make homemade cinnamon applesauce, we do so while multitasking in the kitchen. The apples become very soft after microwaving, allowing even our kids to operate the foley mill safely. Our kids are always up for it, and we make it every apple season!
