Trust is The Solution to Everything!
I've been intrigued by a few different posts and conversations over the last few days.
The Great China Gorman showed us the Millennial perspective on talent attraction. I hate posts that convey Generational Stereotyping and I do not believe a person of one generational has the right to write or speak about another. China's post is fact-filled and without emotion... a perfect sociological verification of our need for Change Management strategy in Organizational Development.
The Incomparable Tim Houlihan conducted an equally compelling webinar on change management in compensation. Tim pointed out that $16 a week is what separates top performers from average performers in standard pay organizations. Conclusion: a paycheck is not enough.
I was further intrigued by an article written by Mario Castillo on tip disclosure in the service industry. Mario made the distinct legal recommendation to keep customer information confidential. I couldn't help but feeling that great service always warrants a reward and that bad tippers don't deserve great service.
Overall Conclusion: Trust Matters Most!
The greatest way to attract the rock stars of tomorrow to your organization is by being boldly transparent. In a trusting Manager to Peer relationship, leaders can maintain their post and employees will produce beyond expectation. If our customer knows we have done all we can to serve them to the best of our ability, they will reward us with more patronage and a greater investment in our services.
Don't Kill The Meaning!
People want to be inspired by their leaders. If you genuinely believe in your organizational purpose people will charge to support the cause. Great leaders don't have to manage at all.
In the words of the Great Sparky Reardon:
"Preach (your organizational cause) Every Day.... and when necessary, use words"
Simplicity Means More....
We want to offer our employees every opportunity for financial gain. Most employees would be willing to leave money on the table for a cause they believe in amplified by outstanding leaders.
Trust Matters Most!
The days of dictatorship are over. Bosses are called upon to lead their team as equals. Trust is earned by those who practice what they preach.
If you tell your employees what they have to do to stay employed, they will do just enough to stay employed. If you provide your employees with outstanding resources, teach them applicable skills and trust them to execute.... they will thrive and stay loyal to your organization.
