World Vision applauds the emergency humanitarian funding package passed by Congress and signed into law by President Biden on April 24. This package included nearly $9.2 billion in humanitarian funding for needs around the globe, such as responding to displacement, hunger, and conflict. This additional funding is desperately needed, and we are grateful to the U.S. Congress and the White House for their bipartisan cooperation in ensuring humanitarian needs were not forgotten. Authorizing this critical funding took the time and effort of many, including World Vision Advocates around the U.S. The result is more food, shelter, water and protection for children and families in places like Haiti, Sudan, Ethiopia, and Chad. “Responding to record-setting humanitarian needs is not only the right thing to do, but it’s also the smart thing to do,” stated World Vision Senior Director of Government Relations Lisa Bos “When crisis spiral out of control, their impact is long-term. This particularly impacts children who face a lack of food, disruptions to their education, and severe trauma. The more we can address urgent needs now, the more we can work to restore a sense of stability and support for the most vulnerable.” #WVAdvocacy

🚨 The Ripple Effect of the U.S. Aid Suspension on Global Humanitarian Response 🚨 The recent halt on U.S. foreign assistance—including ongoing projects—for 90 days will have severe consequences in some of the world’s most fragile contexts. 🌍 As conflicts & climate disasters deepen humanitarian needs, United Nations OCHA urges more global support for the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF). Despite $351M pledged yesterday, a 16% drop from last year signals a tough funding outlook. “Now more than ever, we need a global humanitarian system that is prepared, empowered and well-funded to meet the challenges before us," said Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher. “CERF is vital to this mission. Whether it succeeds or not depends on how generous the international community wants to be.” #HumanitarianAid #CERF https://bit.ly/3BlzqNE

Each of these below figures represent men, women and children across the globe making life-altering decisions for themselves--right now--about where to get antiretroviral drugs to manage HIV, medicines for chronic illnesses and immunizations to keep them alive. They navigate the complexity of fragile environments to access safety from conflict, to acquire clean water for daily consumption and mitigate infectious disease. They count on support to put their children through school and build livelihoods to progress and thrive. Hundreds of millions are now at risk of dying and sliding deeper into extreme poverty in places where foreign assistance is literally a lifeline. There is a human story embedded in every stat you will read about this aid freeze. We must get this right and on track to resume.

🌍 USAID’s Policy on Locally Led Humanitarian Assistance 🌍 USAID has introduced its Locally Led Humanitarian Assistance (LLHA) Policy aimed at placing local communities at the forefront of humanitarian action. With rising global humanitarian needs, USAID recognizes that local actors are best positioned to respond effectively to crises due to their proximity, knowledge, and relationships. Key goals include: --25% of funding directly to local actors by 2025 and 50% of activities locally led by 2030. --Strengthening local capacity to lead disaster responses, building resilience, and reducing risks. --Fostering equitable partnerships and supporting diverse local actors, particularly in conflict zones. This policy reinforces USAID’s commitment to empowering communities, enhancing accountability, and creating sustainable, long-term humanitarian solutions. #LocallyLed #HumanitarianAssistance #USAID #GlobalDevelopment #CommunityEmpowerment #Resilience

A Tribute to the Resilient Humanitarian Community In these unprecedented times marked by the U.S. government’s aid freeze, it’s vital to reflect on the profound contributions and sacrifices of the humanitarian community. From responding to devastating droughts in East Africa to addressing the large-scale displacement and internal crises in Syria, rebuilding lives after earthquakes in Haiti and Turkey, and combating public health emergencies like Ebola in West Africa, humanitarians have been at the forefront of every major global emergency. Even in the direst of situations—whether the unrelenting conflict in Gaza, the worsening civil war in Sudan, or the hunger crisis fueled by famine and climate change—you have stood steadfast, delivering lifesaving aid to communities in desperate need. Your work goes beyond physical relief; it is a testament to hope, resilience, and the unwavering commitment to uphold human dignity in the face of adversity. This freeze, while disruptive, offers a rare opportunity to pause and reassess. It challenges us to consider how humanitarian systems can evolve to become more sustainable and locally driven, addressing root causes rather than merely treating symptoms. It provides a moment to strategize and advocate for more effective, resilient aid systems that truly empower the communities they serve. It is also a time to rest and recharge. After years of relentless service, take this moment to focus on self-care, reconnect with loved ones, and regain strength for the work ahead. This pause is not a reflection of failure but an invitation to recalibrate and prepare for the future with renewed vigor. As we navigate these challenges, let us not forget the countless lives already transformed by your efforts. From restoring hope in conflict zones to rebuilding shattered communities, your work has made an indelible mark on the world. The dedication of humanitarians is the foundation of global recovery and resilience, and this pause is a reminder to honor that. The need for humanitarian action remains as urgent as ever. When this freeze ends, the world will look to you once again to lead with courage and compassion. Until then, use this time to reflect, adapt, and build stronger pathways for lasting change. #HumanitarianResilience #AidPause #HopeInAction #GazaCrisis #SudanCrisis #EastAfricaDroughts #SyriaIDPCrisis #CompassionInCrisis

🚨 The suspension of U.S. humanitarian funding will have devastating consequences. 🚨 🌍 In Syria and Sudan, where I have worked in 2024 and 2025, this suspension will result in a 📉 27% and 45% reduction in humanitarian funding, respectively—despite already massive funding gaps. ⚠️ This will directly affect the lives of those we serve, cutting off critical aid in contexts where needs far exceed resources. Beyond the immediate humanitarian impact, such drastic funding cuts risk fueling further instability and insecurity in already fragile environments. 💔 The consequences will be profound. Now, more than ever, we must advocate for sustained and alternative funding solutions to prevent an even greater crisis. #HumanitarianAid 🚑 | #Syria | #Sudan 🇸🇩 | #CrisisResponse ⛑️ | #FundingCuts ⚠️ | #ActNow 🚨
