Throughout the August Congressional Recess, our advocates from across the country met with Congressional offices to urge them to support funding for UNICEF.
As Congress prepares to vote on a budget for the next fiscal year, we need YOU to make your voice heard, too 👉 https://lnkd.in/e_TBdhvn
Here's the latest from our Public Affairs team.
Hi everyone, My name is Monica from UNICEF USA and over the past couple of weeks you may have seen this on here urging everyone to write to your members of Congress and ask them to support funding for UNICEF. As we wrap up August recess, which is a time for Congressional representatives to return to their home States and connect with their constituents in district, we wanted to give you an update on where everything stands and remind you of why your voices are so important throughout this Congressional recess. Supporters from across the country, including UNICEF club members, UNICEF. Next Gen. members and UNICEF USA Advisory Board members have all been meeting with congressional offices advocating for them to provide the $150 million investment in UNICEF life saving work. In the wake of recent cuts to foreign assistance, many programs protecting children are at risk right now. On our social accounts, we've shared examples of how child protection programs in Afghanistan and nutrition programs in Sudan are all being scaled back, just to name a few examples. And in our meetings we've emphasized. How these cuts pose grave risks to children and their families. We've also shared how investments in UNICEF make the US safer and stronger, and how UNICEF invests in American businesses to procure medicine ready to use therapeutic food, also known as RTF, and humanitarian supplies. A true win win for everyone. We've had lots of productive discussions so far, and we are looking ahead to the appropriations process now, which is when Congress is going to vote on a budget for the next fiscal year. 2026 candidly, we don't know whether UNICEF will receive that funding this year, but what we do know is that your senators and your representatives are listening. We do know that 2000 of you have already taken action and joined us in supporting this Aspire UNICEF. And we do know that every voice matters. So for those of you who have already taken action, we cannot thank you enough. And for those of you who might not have had a chance yet, go ahead and follow the link in this post and follow UNICEF USA for more updates on the Hill.
