At UNICEF, we never give up on children, which is why we continue to develop innovative solutions to reach every child. 💡 UNICEF has developed a new Mother-Infant Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) tape that now allows for the screening of infants aged 6 weeks to 6 months. This is an addition to the existing MUAC tape used to screen children between 6 months and 5 years old. The Mother-Infant MUAC tape has been piloted in 14 countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. It allows for three critical checks: an infant’s nutritional status, an infant’s brain development, and a mother’s nutritional status - because the well-being of mothers and infants goes hand in hand. ✅ Watch the video to learn more about this new Mother-Infant MUAC tape 👇

Amazing, This is the new addition of the 3rd MUAC tape, named mother -infant MUAC tape, having two sides, one side will be used in infants of 6 weeks to 6 months of age and the other side will be used in mothers simultaneously.

Impressive work by UNICEF Supply! Integrating the assessment of both mother and infant health into a single, easy-to-use tool is a game-changer. The Mother-Infant MUAC tape not only supports early identification of malnutrition in young infants but also recognizes the critical link between a mother’s well-being and her child’s development. A powerful step toward more holistic, efficient, and impactful healthcare.

A great step forward in protecting infant and maternal health. Early nutrition screening is also deeply connected to brain development. In my work with children facing developmental and neurological challenges here in Dar Tanzania, I see how timely support can change life outcomes. Strengthening such initiatives at community level creates real opportunities for families

This is a revolutionary UNICEF Supply. This creates more opportunities for MAMI programming to thrive especially in emergencies and during community based interventions where secondary anthropometric measurements tools are a challenge. How widely are the supplies of the mother-infant MUAC, wondering if they are in Nigeria or we could have the standard protocols to guide our MAMI programmes in the production of such tapes.

Congratulations UNICEF Supply 👏. This is a very important innovation to strengthen the nutritional surveillance of children in emergency contexts. Highlighting and assessing the nutritional status of mothers allows timely action to protect and ensure the nutritional recovery of their children, as they are key within the baby’s food and nutrition environment. Caring for their health and well-being is essential to prevent relapses into acute malnutrition, sustain progress achieved, and ensure a healthy future. 🙌
