At UNICEF, we never give up on children, which is why we continue to develop innovative solutions to reach every child. 💡 UNICEF has developed a new Mother-Infant Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) tape that now allows for the screening of infants aged 6 weeks to 6 months. This is an addition to the existing MUAC tape used to screen children between 6 months and 5 years old. The Mother-Infant MUAC tape has been piloted in 14 countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. It allows for three critical checks: an infant’s nutritional status, an infant’s brain development, and a mother’s nutritional status - because the well-being of mothers and infants goes hand in hand. ✅ Watch the video to learn more about this new Mother-Infant MUAC tape 👇

Amazing, This is the new addition of the 3rd MUAC tape, named mother -infant MUAC tape, having two sides, one side will be used in infants of 6 weeks to 6 months of age and the other side will be used in mothers simultaneously.

A great step forward in protecting infant and maternal health. Early nutrition screening is also deeply connected to brain development. In my work with children facing developmental and neurological challenges here in Dar Tanzania, I see how timely support can change life outcomes. Strengthening such initiatives at community level creates real opportunities for families

This much-awaited tool for assessing maternal malnutrition is a great development. It will surely be revolutionary in addressing malnourishment in both mothers and children at the earliest stages.

It’s a great initiative! I thought the colours could be kept the same green, yellow and red for user friendliness for the health workers.
