In Moldova, #Romafamilies often face challenges in accessing essential services - not because these services don’t exist, but because trust is missing. In the latest episode of UNICEF’s podcast The ABCs of SBC, Stratulat Cristina, our Social and Behaviour Change Officer, shares how cultural respect and community leadership made the difference 🤝 👩👧👦 By engaging trusted Roma #leaders, such as Barons and community mediators, UNICEF helped families overcome hesitancy around childhood #vaccinations - ensuring children could enroll in school and fully integrate into their new communities. ✨ Cristina’s story shows that when solutions are rooted in trust and local leadership, #change becomes possible, even in the most marginalized settings. 🎧 Listen to the full podcast here: https://lnkd.in/d_wYJdsK You can also access it on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, as well as a handful of other streaming services (such as Amazon Music and Deezer). #ForEveryChild #SBC #Inclusion

Season 2 of Afri-CAN is continuing with Episode 2 dropping this morning. In this episode we continue under our ‘scaling-up’ theme and explore the work of Street Child, an organisation which supports children's safety and education in low-resource environments and emergencies across 25+ countries in Eastern Europe, South Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa. We examine their Early Childhood Education programme in Moldova and how it was turned into a national priority. The programme was introduced after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, when large numbers of Ukrainian families sought refuge in Moldova. Estimates show 1/8 children in Moldova are Ukrainian refugees. So Street Child launched an initiative to provide education to refugee learners, but they also scaled up Early Childhood Education for Moldovans, enabling many women to join the labour force. On this episode, we talk with Ramya Madhavan, Global Director of Advisory for Street Child, and Mihaela Iurascu, Coordinator of the National Program on Childcare at the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Moldova. We look at the Moldovan experience, how Street Child's Early Childhood Education programme was turned into a national priority, and how we can learn from their initiative in other contexts. “Research shows that while many women face a glass ceiling, women of colour often experience what’s called a concrete ceiling, which can feel even harder to break through. But it’s not impossible. With support, upskilling, and working together, we can make change. That’s why the Women of Colour in the Public Sector Network is launching a campaign this year to raise awareness and highlight what we can do together to break that ceiling. This is about paving the way not just for today, but for the next generation of women of colour and their allies.” Dr. Hend Zaki 🎧 Hear more in Episode 10 of Pass the Mic: https://lnkd.in/g_k3_PbX Or find us on YouTube, Iheart Radio, Spotify and Wellington Access Radio 106.1 FM 🎙️ Episode recorded by Planet FM 104.6, hosted by Shabnam and produced by China Gonzalez. #PassTheMic made possible by J R McKenzie Trust. #migrants #employmentopportunitites #activists #employmentlaw #migrantstories #podcast #migrantpodcast #equalopportunities #decentemployment #refugeerights
