As climate challenges intensify, education stands out as one of the most powerful tools to protect our planet and our future. During the #SocialSummit2025 side event “Learning for Climate Resilience: Integrated Pathways for Poverty Eradication, Jobs & Inclusion,” UNICEF Gulf Area Director Lana Khalil Al-Wreikat joined partners from Education Above All, UNDP, and youth leaders to spotlight how inclusive education can unlock opportunity, create green jobs, and build more resilient communities. The lesson from the Gulf is powerful: when national visions combine education, empowerment, and participation, children and youth become co-authors of climate resilience, not just its beneficiaries. 🇶🇦 Qatar – AI for Child Well-being and youth-led climate innovation 🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia – Embedding digital learning, innovation & green skills across the education system 🇦🇪 UAE – Providing climate education to all school children 🇰🇼 Kuwait – Prioritizing inclusive, shock-responsive systems for children & families 🇧🇭 Bahrain – Empowering young people through STEM education Across the GCC, the green transition is proving to be not only technological — but generational. UNICEF is proud to work with partners across the region to equip children and young people with the digital, green, and entrepreneurial skills they need to shape a sustainable future.

The conversation on learning for climate resilience goes beyond classrooms — it’s about how nations future-proof their societies. What I found most inspiring in Doha is how GCC countries are reframing education as a driver of climate adaptation, social inclusion, and economic diversification. From AI and green skills to community resilience and youth leadership, the region is translating ambition into systems change. At UNICEF, we see education as the connective tissue between climate action, poverty reduction, and human capital development — and the Gulf is showing how visionary policies can make this integration real. The next frontier is clear: ensuring that every child, everywhere, not only learns about climate change, but learns to shape the solutions. 🌍💡 #SocialSummit2025 #UNICEF #GCC #ClimateEducation #GreenSkills #ForEveryChild #FutureofLearning

We call on all stakeholders to invest resources, action, and effort in realising every commitment of the Declaration, especially on education, which is closely linked with poverty eradication, decent work, and social inclusion. Education must build competence, drive innovation, and create employment by connecting learning with technology and enterprise. In Kenya, we have reformed our curriculum to a competency-based model, recruited more teachers to close the staffing gap, and increased education funding by nearly one billion dollars to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive. Attended an Education Forum on the sidelines of the Second World Summit for Social Development, in Doha, Qatar, focused on re-imagining learning to end poverty, create decent work, promote inclusion, and seize opportunities in the digital age.

H.E. Fahad Al-Sulaiti, Director General of Qatar Fund for Development, expressed his pleasure in hosting the Second World Social Summit, highlighting Qatar’s commitment to advancing the global development agenda. He emphasized that nutrition and education are deeply interconnected pillars for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Strengthening partnerships between the health, education, and community sectors is essential to create lasting impact. H.E. Al-Sulaiti underscored that when children are hungry, schools are empty—but when schools begin cooking and providing nourishment, communities come back to life. He called for collective leadership to promote nutrition in schools and communities, turning advocacy into national action plans that empower the next generation. Qatar, he noted, looks forward to reaffirming its commitment through this summit, working hand in hand with global partners to build a healthier, more educated, and sustainable future for all.

Breaking silos. Building synergy! PSDF met with UNDP Pakistan for an initial discussion on areas of mutual interest — from export-oriented skills and inclusive training models to public-private financing instruments and alignment with government priorities under the Chief Minister’s framework. Both sides emphasized the need for a coordinated national action plan for skills, where government, donors, and implementing agencies align to enhance outcomes across climate, digital, and export-driven sectors. Key focus areas included developing skills for international markets, designing life skills training for crisis-affected communities, and district-level skills mapping to better match training supply with labour demand. These discussions mark an important step toward building a cohesive, future-ready, and SDG-aligned skills ecosystem for Pakistan. #PSDF #UNDP #SkillsForFuture #ClimateAction #DigitalPakistan #ExportReadyWorkforce #CrisisManagement #PartnershipsForImpact #PublicPrivatePartnerships #SDGs
