✨ The collaboration between CyberBells Foundation and the Ghana Internet Safety Foundation (GISF) is one to admire. At the launch of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, this partnership stood out for its commitment to equipping law enforcement with the skills to tackle today’s digital threats. Through GISF’s ePolice Academy, police officers in the Bono and Ashanti Regions are being trained in cyber-enabled crime investigations, cyberforensics, and child online safety. The Trainer-of-Trainers model ensures that knowledge doesn’t stop at one session but cascades across regions, strengthening the capacity of hundreds of officers. For me, this is where cybersecurity awareness becomes meaningful not just policies or headlines, but practical skills that empower those on the frontlines of protecting our communities. PROTECTING CHILDREN IN THE DIGITAL SPACE – WHERE DO ONLINE PLATFORMS STAND IN THIS FIGHT? While most cases of grooming, manipulation, and child exploitation begin online, many platforms still lack effective reporting mechanisms or emergency tools to safeguard young users. According to the OECD (2025), among the world’s 50 largest online platforms, only 10 clearly define child sexual exploitation, and just 20 publicly release transparency reports on the issue. This highlights a significant gap in platform accountability. In response, the Signing Ceremony of the Hanoi Convention and the Side Dialogue titled “The Role of Online Platforms in Protecting Children and Adolescents from Cybercrime”—organized by the Digital Trust Alliance in collaboration with the Department of Cybersecurity and High-Tech Crime Prevention (Ministry of Public Security)—will serve as an opportunity for key stakeholders, including the Government, Platforms, and Communities, to exchange insights, define responsibilities, and foster cooperation to protect vulnerable groups in the digital environment. So, what more can platforms do to ensure the safety of children and young people online?
