Motaz, 11 months, is Rowa’s only child. In early November, Rowa learned that he was suffering from malnutrition. Since then, Motaz has been receiving support at a UNICEF-supported nutrition treatment point in Gaza City. Even amid the current ceasefire, mothers and children continue to struggle to access nutritious food. Prices remain very high, and many families have no financial means to buy even basic items. “He had the flu last week – all the children around here are sick. Even now, despite the ceasefire, daily life is still incredibly difficult,” says Rowa. UNICEF remains committed to reaching these families with life-saving nutrition support and protecting the health of children and their mothers.

  • A healthcare worker measures a baby's arm circumference for nutritional assessment while the mother holds the child in a clinic room.
  • Woman wearing a pink headscarf feeding a baby dressed in a blue jacket while sitting in a room with cardboard boxes and office chairs.

Heartbreaking yet critically important story. Motaz’s experience reflects the daily reality for countless children whose nutritional needs remain unmet despite the ceasefire. Rowa’s strength, like that of so many mothers, underscores the urgency of sustained humanitarian access and support. Deep appreciation to UNICEF and partners for continuing to provide life-saving nutrition services in such challenging conditions. Every child deserves safety, health, and hope.

Motaz’s story is a powerful reminder that ceasefires do not immediately end human suffering. Even brief disruptions in access to nutritious food can have life-long consequences for children, especially the most vulnerable. UNICEF’s work in Gaza highlights the critical importance of humanitarian nutrition support, healthcare access, and community outreach. Protecting mothers and children today is an investment in resilient families and healthier futures. Stories like these underscore that humanitarian response must continue even when headlines fade, because real lives depend on consistent, lifesaving support. Deep respect to every field worker and volunteer delivering aid under extreme conditions. #ChildNutrition #HumanitarianSupport #UNICEFImpact #MaternalHealth #MalnutritionPrevention #GazaRelief #LifeSavingAid #GlobalHumanitarian #CEOVoice #ImpactDrivenLeadership #ResilientCommunities
