What a powerful story — Vaishali’s confidence moving around campus thanks to inclusive design speaks volumes about what’s possible when we build with all children in mind. In India, the government has made strides. The UDISE+ 2024-25 report shows that about 54.9 % of schools now have infrastructure like ramps to support accessibility. Also, recent data reveal that the provision of ramps in Indian schools has increased in recent years, from 56.8 % to 77.1 % in the last decade (Facebook, PTI). These are encouraging signals — but infrastructure is only one piece of the puzzle. Accessible design plus trained teachers, inclusive pedagogy, and supportive school systems make the difference.
