In total agreement. We must support and empower teachers with the knowledge and training to be part of the change we need to be, and see. The school is a space where the teacher and child need to feel safe, if they are to build relationships of mutual respect and love of learning. There was a time I put the priority on the teacher to become the change, but I see now that as we empower them to create safer classrooms and school fields, we must also address their wellness issues. Violence in schools is evolving into more than playground bullying. The community needs to be part of the solution - in supporting teachers to be able to deliver on their duty of care, as well as their duty to care.
