UNICEF Papua New Guinea’s Post

Just a year ago, classrooms in Wampar LLG fell silent. A violent clash had disrupted learning and forced hundreds of children out of school. Today, those same classrooms are filled with laughter and hope. UNICEF Regional Director for East Asia and the Pacific, June Kunugi, visited Muya Primary School to see how far the community has come. With support from KOICA, UNICEF is helping teachers provide positive behavior management and psychological support - linking students to mental health care and social services when needed. New WASH facilities at the school and nearby health center are also ensuring children can learn in a cleaner, safer, and more supportive environment. Together, we are helping children in Wampar reclaim their right to learn, grow, and dream again. 💙 KOICA UNICEF East Asia and Pacific #WASH #ChildProtection #ForEveryChild #PapuaNewGuinea

This is truly inspiring 👏. The work by UNICEF and KOICA in Wampar LLG demonstrates how holistic interventions — combining education, mental health, and WASH — can restore dignity and hope in crisis-affected communities. At Simbu Institutional WaSH Initiative (SIWI), we believe access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene is a cornerstone for child protection and learning. We commend UNICEF Papua New Guinea for leading by example and look forward to aligning our community-based WaSH programs in Simbu Province with such impactful models. 💧✨ #WASH #ChildProtection #CommunityResilience #ForEveryChild #SIWI #PapuaNewGuinea
