UNICEF Lesotho’s Post

𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 #𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗼 Last week marked two major milestones in Lesotho’s ongoing efforts to protect every child from vaccine-preventable diseases. On 16 October, the Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Nthomeng Majara, officially launched the national Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign in Quthing District, reaffirming government’s commitment to safeguard the health of Basotho children. The Deputy Prime Minister urged parents and caregivers, village health workers, health personnel, and community leaders to ensure that every child under five is vaccinated and protected from measles and rubella. With support from World Health Organization Lesotho, UNICEF Lesotho, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and other partners, the MR campaign officially kicks off today, 𝟮𝟬 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝘂𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹 𝟮𝟰 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 2025, aiming to ensure that every child aged 𝟬 𝘁𝗼 𝟱𝟵 months is reached with life-saving vaccines and Vitamin A for boosted immunity. In another milestone for child health, the Right Honourable Prime Minister, Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane, together with the Minister of Health, officially opened the newly constructed Thaba-Tseka District Vaccine Store — a landmark project implemented by the Ministry of Health and UNICEF Lesotho with support from the Government of Japan under the Japan Emergency Grant Aid. Built to WHO standards, the modern facility strengthens Lesotho’s vaccine storage and distribution capacity, a critical step in Japan’s “Last Mile” strategy to ensure equitable access to life-saving vaccines across Africa. These achievements underscore Lesotho’s determination to build a healthier, more resilient future for every child.
