6dGuaranteeing the Rights of Girls Requires Both Action and Education I completely agree that there must be urgent action to guarantee the rights of girls. However, while we advocate for stronger measures, we must also ensure that girls themselves are educated about their rights. Awareness is empowerment. From early education, girls should be taught about their constitutional rights, as well as key international frameworks that protect them—such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and the Maputo Protocol. They should also be introduced to the basics of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and International Human Rights Law (IHRL) to understand how these protect their dignity and freedom. Moreover, community sensitization is crucial—not only for girls and women but also for boys, men, and those in the informal sector. Educating everyone about gender equality and rights will create more inclusive, supportive communities where girls can thrive.
