UNICEF East Asia and Pacific’s Post

China’s EV market is booming—but skilled technicians are in short supply. With support from the Ministry of Education, UNICEF’s Life Skills programme is helping bridge the gap. Young people like Du Qisheng are gaining hands-on green skills as EV mechanics—diagnosing batteries, repairing vehicles, and extending their lifespan. In addition to technical skills, his journey has taken him to provincial and national competitions, exposing him to new ideas, peers, and opportunities beyond his home island of Hainan. “I feel this industry is very promising. I will keep learning and improving my skills, to open up more possibilities for my future,” says Qisheng. UNICEF East Asia and Pacific, this is a fantastic illustration of how strategic partnerships and targeted life skills programs can empower young people for the green economy! Bridging the skills gap in China's booming EV market with initiatives like these is not just about economic growth, but also about fostering sustainable futures and equitable opportunities. Truly inspiring to see young talents like Du Qisheng thrive! #GreenSkills #YouthEmpowerment
