Children grow up surrounded by food and surrounded by mostly unhealthy food. And it's the places where children shop or where their parents shop for them. So places like supermarkets, convenience stores, fast food outlets, or now increasingly online food delivery outlets, those are the places that children experience the food systems. And it's in those places where food manufacturers, food retailers, they use these really powerful marketing techniques to influence what children see. And what they prefer and ultimately what they buy it. And it's very hard to see in real time how the food system has changed. But we've looked with UNICEF, we've looked at some data over the last 15 years in 97 different countries, fourteen of which were in East Asia. We've looked at the way that the food system changed and we found that it's in those countries where the number of supermarkets and convenience stores has increased the fastest. Those are the same countries where the sales of unhealthy food. And ultimately, the prevalence of obesity has increased the faster. So there's a real link between the type of food system that children are exposed to and what they buy and ultimately their health.
