United Nations Field Insights from Mbébé and Kikot: A Glimpse into Community Realities During the recent joint United Nations field mission to the Kikot–Mbébé Hydroelectric Project site, the delegation of Heads of United Nations Agencies in #Cameroon made a meaningful stop at Mbébé Public School—a modest institution with just two classrooms and one dedicated government teacher serving pupils from Class 1 to 6. Among the 20 enrolled children, only six are girls—a statistic that quietly speaks volumes about the challenges of rural education and gender disparities in project-affected communities. This visit served as a reminder of the importance of integrating education, gender equality, and child protection into development initiatives. It reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to inclusive, rights-based approaches that prioritise the needs of every child. 🌾 In Kikot, the delegation also met with a dynamic group of 12 women farmers who have come together to manage a community farm. Their cultivation of cassava, plantain, and tomatoes reflects not only agricultural resilience but also the strength of local women’s leadership in advancing food security and economic empowerment. These encounters provided valuable insights into the lived realities of communities and the potential for development projects to serve as catalysts for social transformation when they are designed with people at their centre. How can we ensure that every infrastructure project becomes a platform for inclusive growth? #UNCameroon #FieldMission #CommunityEngagement #EducationMatters #GenderEquality #WomenEmpowerment #SustainableDevelopment #KikotMbébéProject #LeaveNoOneBehind
