Today, the Department of Social Development, Ministry of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, and UNICEF hosted the Department of Social Development Symposium under the theme “Social Development in a Changing Botswana.” This event provided a vital platform to discuss how Botswana can enhance inclusive and equitable social protection systems that Leave No One Behind. UNICEF's commitment to social development places children at the heart of national policies and programs. In Botswana, we are partnering with the Government to build robust social protection systems. This includes generating evidence for policy reforms, capacity building, modernising digital delivery platforms, and strengthening monitoring and evaluation systems to ensure programs are evidence-driven and accountable. At the symposium, UNICEF Social Policy Manager, Samuel Phiri shared global and regional insights on how social protection can be a powerful tool to reduce child poverty, enhance resilience, and ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive.
