Great day at StartCon.com. Loved meeting Nico King. Here he is telling me why he believes games are the most powerful medium for social change. He is also showing me his award-winning game Bleached Az, that is fun and engaging as the player gets to defend corals. Nico cofounded Chaos Theory Games, which has a mission to solve social, political and humanitarian problems through games and gamification. Love it! We will definitely be catching up again. Maybe we can use games to progress the commons! #games #gamification #socialchange #commons #commongood #sustainability #regeneration
Games and gamification for sustainability and humanitarian goals sounds really interesting!
Game-design principles can also change people's relationship with money, for the better: https://moroku.com/what-it-takes-to-effect-lasting-improvements-in-customers-money-habits/
Games for good, love it. What happened to cartoon series in more main stream targeting children when there was less advertising, Captain Planet anyone?!? Captain who???
Loving the response to this post and the very impressive Nico King. I do want to give a shout out to the wonderful Digital Storytellers who have given me the confidence in the first instance to even spontaneously shoot this video. I'm still learning - it's not a sophisticated video e.g. no cutaways, background music etc., but it seems to be doing a reasonable job of engaging people. Thanks Natasha Akib Peter Dowson Zara Choy Mikey Leung!
Compelling argument! I'll have to extend my range of exploration on social change platforms and mediums (media?) Bleached Az, cool concept and great that they're also contributing a portion of $ towards climate impact initiatives.
Wow! Thanks for this quote Donald Marmara.
Agreed. To quote David Boadella, whom I had the privelege of training with over a 4-year period in the 1980's: "Depression is the loss of the ability to play!" Need I say more?!
Powerful Tirrania,! Embodiment of the child in all of us! The child wants to play!
Well he is a man of my ilk! Having just delivered a team/culture change process based solely on games(theatre/Improv) I can tell you they are one of the most powerful engagement tools! The more games the merrier learning will be!
Brilliant - I knew gaming was gonna be good for something ;0) Hope it will inspire to protect corals in the real world too.
