The Global Nutrition Report’s Post

For the first time, more school-aged children and adolescents are living with obesity than underweight. In their new report, "Feeding Profit: How food environments are failing children," UNICEF sheds light on shifts in global #malnutrition. With rates of overweight doubling in the last two decades, 1 in 5 children aged 5–19 are now living with overweight, and 1 in 13 are living with obesity. The #data is clear: unhealthy food environments are spurring this dramatic growth. To sustain and advance progress for millions of children, policymakers, the private sector, and other #nutrition actors must be held accountable for their commitments to child nutrition. This is a stark reminder of how rapidly the nutrition landscape is shifting. The rise in childhood overweight and obesity demands urgent, systemic action to transform food environments. We must hold governments, industry, and ourselves accountable to ensure every child has access to healthy diets.
