One fascinating outcome of remote working is how much the idea of productivity is changing 💡 For many years, productivity often meant sitting at a screen for 8 hours a day with few breaks or adjustments. Now, because of increased remote work flexibility, employees are adopting "non-linear" workdays. These non-linear workdays empower employees to do the school run, take a gym break, or adjust their schedules to find their optimal focus time. "A core benefit of non-linear workdays is having control over how to spend your time and getting work done when you’re most productive" explains Laura M. Giurge. Well said! 👏 Asynchronous working practices and a focus on outcomes rather than hours clocked means employees can better integrate their work and their lives, reduce stress and fully engage with their tasks. Have any of you adopted "non-linear" working practices?
It's about time that we review our definition of "productivity" at work. Outcomes should speak for themselves. In a remote work environment, you won't see the other person anyways - ok, on videos calls, but not during 8 hours per day - so it's time to move on from old measurements and get used to results over time.
When you have to lay down your ideas in writing because of the asynchronous nature of remote work, you have to go straight to the point, no bullshit, it needs to be crystal clear. This for me is a huge productivity gain, no half-baked idea.
Never really bought into the effort expended thesis - it's providing solutions to problems in the most efficient manner isn't it? Does me stopping to have a coffee during a normal work date make me more or less efficient? A little clear head space to refocus, rather than continue banging my head on a creative wall which refuses to budge, it's a no brainer right 😂
Indeed, very good point Tony Jamous. One reason, why we have never charged our clients based on effort, but based on value #blunaranja
Work smarter, not harder.
