Sir Jony Ive, Apple's former head of design, has turned his design skills to the iconic Red Nose for this year’s Comic Relief. It’s the first chance for many to buy an Ive designed product following his departure from Apple back in 2019 - and a lot cheaper too. Made manly from plant-based materials rather than the spongy foam of previous years, the new collapsible honeycomb designed red nose even comes in its own AirPods like case for safe keeping when you aren’t wearing it. And as Ive himself says: “This new and seemingly simple Red Nose has been a fabulously complex little object to design and make and has involved our entire team. "She has five men on the go at any one time so I have no time for her." This was a comment left about Carol Vordeman on a post that was discussing Ms Vorderman's recent criticism of the government regarding possible insider trading and tax evasion by Rishi Sunak et al. A male entered into the discussion and decided to focus on her sex life to try and discredit her. Yes, it is 2023, not 1923. His belief is that she has no right to criticise the government or have an opinion because of her private relationships as a consenting adult with other consenting adults. A woman who is highly educated, intelligent and a very successful individual. Can you ever imagine this being said about his sex life? I'm sure many reading this can relate to this type of misogynic experience at least once in their life. But if you see it? Call it out. The worst part? The bystanders who watch see it play out and say nothing. Women are harassed, attacked and demeaned by comments like this daily. Call it out. Thanks to the people that did on the original post. February is #lgbthistorymonth, which always gets me thinking about the late Gilbert Baker, creator of the LGBT+ rainbow flag. 🌈 A highlight of my early career was flying Gilbert over from his native San Francisco for a round of press interviews to celebrate Absolut Vodka's first Pride bottle. Not only was he an awesome person to hang out with, full of colour and gossip; it was a great intro to how brands can approach this kind of project the right way, working in close partnership with LGBT+ people and bringing lesser known stories and voices into the spotlight. (I am biased but Absolut are rockstars at this, having worked with the community since the early 80s - when not a lot of brands were!) Gilbert passed away in 2017 but his memory lives on in the amazing Gilbert Baker Foundation.
