🆕 WEBINAR: ‘Nature-Based Solutions’, 2 October at 11:00 CEST. Join us to find out how you can apply for European Space Agency - ESA funding to support the development of a space-enabled service or application related to Nature-Based Solutions. You’ll hear how funding will be provided for a 6-month study called a ‘Kick-Start’, which can lead on to a larger scale Demonstration Project. Nature-based Solutions (NBS) leverage the power of healthy ecosystems to enhance protections for society, optimise infrastructure, and ensure a biodiverse future. Applications for NBS are wide-ranging and span many verticals. There is currently interest and demand for solutions that improve the efficiency in planning, implementing, and monitoring of ecosystem services. You’ll see how there is significant scope for NBS management and implementation to benefit from space-based assets such as satellite Earth observation (SatEO), satellite navigation (Satnav), and satellite communications (Satcom), used with digital technologies including AI and IoT devices. For example, the use of satellite imagery to highlight areas for ecosystem restoration, monitor green spaces for changes in habitat condition. 🌍 UK tech company Secure Innovation has launched its Remote Planet platform, a new service which uses space technology to provide remote management and monitoring of high value assets and infrastructure. Marco Sartori, European Space Agency - ESA Technical Officer on the Remote Planet project said “This has been a really interesting project, focusing on developing not only the software but also evolving the proprietary hardware, enabling a full service agile platform with the capacity and flexibility to react quickly to customer requirements.” From its base in Cornwall (in the far southwest of the UK), Secure Innovation now protects and monitors thousands of assets daily, providing secure solutions to customers around the globe. We invite proposals for Feasibility Studies and Demonstration Projects for services that combine the use of satellite technologies and robotics in applications addressing the health and safety sector. Space technologies, satellite imagery or data could play a key role alongside robotics technologies in solutions related to disaster response, search and rescue, CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive) operational safety, wildfire detection and response, telemedicine, social robotics, public and worker safety, and many other application areas identified within the domains of health and safety. For the purposes of this call, ‘robotics’ includes physical robots, autonomous drones, machines and vehicles, and precursory solutions that enable these (e.g. perception and navigation systems for autonomous vehicle services, connectivity solutions to enable tele-operated robotics).
