Weekly Wrap-Up: Energy and Brazil This week, two insightful reports from the International Energy Agency (IEA). and the World Economic Forum highlighted Brazil's potential to lead the global energy transition. With contributions from Tomás Bredariol, the IEA released a report saying that Brazil stands out as a frontrunner in clean energy transitions, boasting the lowest share of fossil fuels among the world’s largest economies. As the G20 President in 2024, Brazil has a unique opportunity to lead the global energy transition agenda, leveraging its renewables-based power system and extensive biofuel sector. Additionally, hosting COP30 next year in Belém, a gateway to the Amazon, will spotlight Brazil’s clean energy initiatives on the international stage. https://shorturl.at/U1bTn And according to a piece by Espen Mehlum, WEF's Head of Energy Transition Intelligence, while European countries dominate the global rankings, Brazil and Chile shine as remarkable leaders, both featuring in the top 20 of this year’s index, with Brazil ranking 12th. https://shorturl.at/o9K9C Brazil is set to play a pivotal role in the global shift towards sustainable energy. Enjoy the read and stay tuned for these exciting developments! #EnergyTransition #Brazil #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #COP30 #IEA #WEF #Sustainability

The European Commission is awarding nearly €720m to seven #renewablehydrogen projects in #Europe, selected through the first competitive bidding process under the European Hydrogen Bank. The funds for this auction come from the revenues of the EU Emissions Trading System. The winning bidders, drawn from four countries, will produce renewable hydrogen in #Europe and will receive a subsidy – ranging from €8m-€245m – to bridge the price difference between their production costs and the market price for hydrogen, which is currently driven by non-renewable producers. I am excited to share my short interview dedicated to COP29 Azerbaijan with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) , a valued partner supporting Azerbaijan's renewable pathway, as the COP29 Opening Plenary session is set to begin soon today in my Homeland. The #ADB has supported key projects in our #energytransition, including two essential initiatives: ♻ The #Boyukshor Floating Solar Power Plant—a pioneering use of Azerbaijan’s water bodies to generate #cleanenergy , which we celebrated at the recent inauguration. ♻ The #GaradagSPP — one of the largest solar project in the region developed by Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company), adding significant #renewable capacity to our #energygrid and advancing the clean energy agenda for #Azerbaijan. Aligned with this progress, Azerbaijan proudly endorses the #COP29 Presidency’s energy initiatives, each designed to elevate ambition and foster collaboration across borders: ✅ Global Energy Storage and Grids Pledge—a commitment to expanding global #energystorage capacity and accelerating #investments in grids to create stable, resilient #energysystems. ✅ Green Energy Zones and Corridors Pledge—an initiative to stimulate investment, drive economic growth, and develop cross-border infrastructure for sustainable, shared development. ✅ Hydrogen Declaration—unlocking the potential of a global clean #hydrogen market, setting the foundation for hydrogen as a transformative pillar in the low-carbon future. These initiatives, open to governments, industries, the private sector, and philanthropies, are essential in sparking impactful change. By embracing these pledges, Azerbaijan is reinforcing its dedication to a net-zero future, supporting a more resilient and sustainable energy landscape.
Azerbaijan, the host of #COP29, is investing heavily in renewable energy to encourage sustainable growth and diversify its energy supply. Learn how ADB’s innovative solar projects across the country can help ensure a bright and greener future.

Commenting on the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)’s Renewable Energy Statistics 2024, COP28 President Dr. Sultan Al Jaber stressed the need to increase the pace and scale of development to meet the global goal of tripling renewable energy capacity by 2030, adding: “this moment provides a significant opportunity to add strong national energy targets in NDCs to support the global goal of keeping the 1.5°C target within reach. Above all, we must change the narrative that climate investment is a burden to it being an unprecedented opportunity for shared socio-economic development.” Read the report: https://lnkd.in/dZtNbxdS #COP28 #UAEConsensus
