Shift5 appreciates the steps outlined in the United States Department of Defense's 2023 Cyber Strategy to break down barriers between public and private sectors. We look forward to continuing to work with our government partners to secure our nation’s most critical weapon systems against cyberattacks. In recent weeks, we’ve heard Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks and other senior DoD leaders renew the call to accelerate the adoption of innovative commercial solutions. Yesterday’s release of the DoD’s updated cybersecurity strategy only confirms that urgency. https://lnkd.in/edcF2fgQ #nationalsecurity #observability #publicprivatepartnerships #defensetech #innovation #readiness #survivability

Chinese Cyberattacks Targeting US Defense Industry The US Cyber Command chief, Gen. Timothy Haugh, raised alarms over China's rising cyber threats against the US defense industrial base (Dib), stressing the involvement of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in engaging in increasingly sophisticated cyber espionage activities. Addressing the audience at TechNet Cyber 2024, Haugh detailed the PRC's committed efforts in intellectual property theft, critical infrastructure attacks, and supply chain disruptions, which pose a substantial risk to national defense. Supporting Haugh's assertions, Lt. Gen. Robert Skinner, DISA Director, and Lt. Gen. Maria Barrett, Army Cyber Command chief, also testified to China’s targeted attacks on vital sectors and small businesses within the DIB. They emphasized the importance of DoD's partnerships with the industry, noting current measures to protect and arm businesses with cybersecurity defenses. This united front is hoped to withstand the onslaught of cyber assaults, as the DoD and Cyber Command reinforce their resolve to protect national interests. #cybersecurity #cyberespionage #cyberwarfare #dod #cyberattack https://lnkd.in/dGcaGRru

As two military Service-Disabled Veterans with extensive experience in the Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, Department of State and private industry, Founder John Harrison and I embrace the challenges of our industry. “Can you fix this?” was a question potential clients invariably asked us after we completed their NIST-171 and CMMC assessments and System Security Plans. Recognizing that these sweeping new regulations would impact over 300,000 DIB contractors, we built Hyper Vigilance. Our primary mission: to deliver high-quality, effective cybersecurity and compliance solutions at an affordable cost. Time to pop the champagne because the House Armed Services Committee just included an independent study on a Cyber Force within the United States Department of Defense in their NDAA Markup!🍾🥂 The DoD must evolve to meet the threats facing our nation, just like when the United States Air Force was added in 1947 and the United States Space Force in 2019. We recognize five war-fighting domains: land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace… but only four have their own dedicated service. Meanwhile, cyber threats are banging at our door, and the Department of Defense is still trying to find the right software to keep them out. 🖥️🔐 We know a Cyber Force won't magically cut through the red tape slowing down software deployment, but the very real threat to our cybersecurity deserves serious consideration. It's time to see if we need a dedicated Cyber Force to combat it. What are your thoughts on the addition of a Cyber Force? #CyberSecurity #NationalSecurity #CyberForce

In April 2021, DoD Cyber Crime Center’s (DC3) DoD Vulnerability Disclosure Program (VDP), DoD DIB Collaborative Information Sharing Environment (DCISE), and the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) joined forces to host a 12-month Defense Industrial Base Vulnerability Disclosure Program (DIB-VDP) Pilot as a free benefit to voluntary DIB participants. The goal: Leverage lessons learned from five years of implementing the DoD Vulnerability Disclosure Program to better protect America’s Defense Industrial Base. 12 months, 300 #cybersecurity researchers, and 1,000 reports later = a resounding success. We look forward to bringing the success of our past efforts into the future of #DIB. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/e7DsnsXc.
