I am hiding from Covid in Quebec at the moment. A woman who works for me here just informed me that can't work any more because her kids aren't going to school right now. One of them came home with the sniffles and it freaked her out so much that she decided not to send them back. (They are all ok.) It took the government two days before they starting threatening her with taking away her children unless she sent them to school. But why? The Spartans had compulsory schooling so they could start training them for the military. Nearly every country has compulsory schooling today because during the industrial revolution they were worried about having enough factory workers. But why does this matter today? Even if a parent is allowed to homeschool they must follow the standards set up by state legislatures. Those standards were put in place in another century for reasons that have nothing to do with today’s world. Isn't it time to re-think this nonsense and stop threatening parents who wish to opt out? Yes, I think that the government should provide free day care. Should government provide free school options? Of course. But parents should get to choose what kinds of schooling they want their kids to have. #education #backtoschool

Global schooling governance models (and teaching methods, and content) are rooted in 18th and 19th century logic. So far, all attempts to break through this nonsense have failed or haven't even been started for lack of a reasonably high likelihood of success. Politicians and school admins are not up to speed with current requirements and have no desire to change the status quo. They rather teach outdated content with outdated methods to generations of kids that leave school devoid of the most relevant skills to succeed. Terrible, terrible example of failed state logic applied to education...

NO! definitly NO -Why would most people opt out from School (especially our friends over the ocean) They teach History in School - and the parents think that is all Fake ..., They teach science at school and this is against the word of ... (put in the parents favorite sacrosanct historical person) ... They teach equal rights and freedom of choice ... that's OK as long the rights and choice adheres to the parents personal believes ... You dont grow people and a society by engraving your own old believes in your children minds, but by giving them the chance to develop new ways of seeing things based on widely accepted common facts. (Like the earth is NOT FLAT)

Hiding is not a strategy. If you are not at risk, take the precautions you need and live your life. Let's protect the vulnerable as we always should. If the virus isn't going away we need to learn how to live with it, not hide from it.

I believe that only Québec has compulsory school attendance. In all other provinces home-schooling is an option. I know that the Netherlands has a similar policy.

Not all parents are as motivated, enlightened or conscious of the value of education as we are. Give parents that option here and 25% would send their kids out in the street to play all day. So like seat belts there needs to be some incentive for parents to do the right thing.

There is no support for parents! Government is about hiding the challenges and not giving a damn about future generations!

Death to Tyrants — or maybe a re-education may suffice.
