an argument for opening schools? from a student on the Today show this morning; "Yes. I'm in my junior year. I'm planning to take the SATs. I'm doing college searches. And right now, I'm not learning. I'm not retaining any information." because school is all about getting kids to retain information; very sad; actually she could learn anywhere anytime if that was what she really cared about; but we create school so that kids can pass tests and get into college; and we are willing to risk lives in order to do that .... time to re-think what school is for (except for the free day care part, which is certainly the real issue) we could provide free day care without pretending it is education
When safety is not created in the classroom, then you can be the best teacher in the world and nothing will get through. The brain is too busy trying to stay safe to take in the learning. This is why ALL educators need to be trauma-informed! Testing is a total trigger for most people. https://youtu.be/KoqaUANGvpA

How are students not learning out of the classroom, but business is chugging along just fine? Plenty of employees are learning everyday from a computer, because everyone in the process has a vested interest in ensuring the learning takes place. It is time to rethink the whole process, and this last year is just the thing to shake things up. I have tried college online. It was a joke. I was shown the help page of the software I paid to learn. That was the extent of the teaching I received. It is not that it is impossible to learn online, but there is frequently no system to teach.
