Pay $50,000 and go to Harvard online; what a joke Harvard has no clue about learning How do we learn? not by reading not by sitting still and listening not by prepping for a test we learn; by writing by speaking by performing by arguing by attempting to build something by tearing something apart by inventing something by analyzing something by diagnosing something by having a discussion You can't learn without having tried and failed to do something you really wanted to do Harvard's idea of online education is made clear if you look at EdX. Try inventing something new Harvard. Lead, don't follow.
All Harvard University students will take online classes this fall amid coronavirus
There seem to be many parallel issues here: - online learning and whether you can ensure effective learning this way (which I believe you can as long as you don’t try to follow the same parameters as in the classroom. Online learning has to take into account the particularities of this type of teaching and learning and obviously needs teachers to be trained accordingly in the necessary skills and tools to deliver worthwhile learning experiences). -the Harvard cachet issue - the issue of tailoring service and pricing During the lockdown we converted our entire school to online teaching from 5th Primary up with a “normal” schedule of classes delivered through Google Meet and I can safely say that we all worked 200% so stating that online teaching is less work than classroom teaching is a myth, unless of course you are not offering quality education. Nursery and up to 2nd Primary were done vía distance learning mainly through videos and Google Drive with a daily or weekly class in Meet depending on the ages. 3rd and 4th Primary engaged in a mix of online and distance learning, moving towards the former as time went by. In this case we were thrown into this mode of teaching, and luckily our school stepped up to the challenge.
Is critical thinking even allowed at Harvard these days? What are students even paying for? They are learning mantras which they chant when faced with opposing opinion...
Absolutely!! And it’s not just Harvard ... so you know I call this the 5 points of the star of online learning . The star ⭐️ is the student who is taught by having a relationship with each point- the community, other students, the teacher, academic work , and technology. It’s about getting the student involved!
Well said roger. Unfortunatley they will learn little except how to succeed through privilege
100%
Interesting! I like
They should learn from Maastricht University: a true leading example!

Roger I absolutely agree with you, but I would argue that you can do all of those great things you mention, online and in fact it’s really important that we utilise scalable and efficient technologies to democratise education as much as possible. There’s nothing that says I have to be sat in a room with you to have a discussion or immerse myself in trying something new. I understand that what Harvard is charging for their service means that is closed to most - that’s another discussion for another time. It’s certainly not the fault of the learning methodology. We should not mix up a discussion against privilege with the benefits of our academic institutions taking their courses online - which actually, if done thoughtfully and at a more reasonable cost could open up a tertiary education to more (and different types of) people.
