🌟 Excited to share my first published research article: "Self Perception and the Leadership Aspirations of Creative Arts Graduates"! 🌟 Co-authored by Declan Mee
As someone with dyslexia, the journey to this accomplishment has been uniquely challenging yet incredibly rewarding. A late diagnosis of dyslexia has re-shaped my perspective and approach, often pushing me to think outside the box. This research for me, is a testament to the power of embracing your differences and stepping into uncharted territories.
In our small study, we explored how creative arts students at the University of Northampton view themselves and their leadership potential. We also analyzed what they consider careers professionals and academics do or could do more of to support them whilst at university. This work underscores the importance of the student's voice in how we plan, develop, and teach employability preparedness and why we should value our student's thoughts and aspirations within our planning to ensure we support their expectations and enable them to broaden their horizons.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this research has been realizing how even a small piece of academic work can be a significant stepping stone to new opportunities and personal growth. Engaging in this project has opened doors I never anticipated and enhanced my confidence.
💡 Every hurdle is an opportunity in disguise. Keep pushing boundaries, and you might just surprise yourself with what you can achieve. 🎓
And, if you would like to read the article and discuss anything with me then please do get in touch.
There are lots of thank you's but a special shout out to Eleanor Morris and Samantha Read. Our project was funded by the JISC Careers Research Grant, I would recommend to any career professionals new to research to utilize this fund.
