PR is “easy.” PR people are “ditzy.” PR is all about half-truths and “spin.” And these are just a few of the harsh misperceptions about the public relations industry. Never mind that PR is routinely ranked as one of the most stressful jobs in America, along with those actively serving in the military. Look, PR is hard. The demands for results are real, and they are unrelenting. Every day is a fire drill 🔥 Thankfully, PR pros are among the most well-rounded business people on the planet. The best of us are: Strong writers Strong marketers Strong salespeople Strong market analysts Strong social media experts Strong in our ability to manage crisis And just plain mentally strong and resilient. 💪 Movies and TV shows like to play up negative stereotypes about PR people spinning lemons into lemonade. And the occasional political spokesperson *actively deserves our scorn*😬 But don’t get it twisted. PR professionals are one of the best assets any company can hire internally or externally. We’re battle-tested. We’re agile. We’re calm under fire. 🧘🧘♂️ And we play to win. This is the way ✊ #publicrelations
PREACH. The "spin doctor" narrative is a tired trope unfortunately kept alive by a lack of strategy, unsavory and/or unethical asks, or pointless publicity. (Note: I'm not trashing publicists--just pointless publicity tactics divorced from communications strategies and business objectives.) Good PR pros really do play to win. They also are backed with audience insights, data to support their recommendations (and are more than happy to help their colleagues do the same), and hone their skills, so that they're basically the Swiss Army knife of their organization.
Well said 👍🏻 PR practioners shouldn’t be called spin doctors. We are helping companies to tell their stories & build engaging relationships.
Okay: 1. Wonderful sentiment! Bravo! 2. And a nerd? Was that a #Mandalorian reference? 3. Someone who thinks like you should join Beki Winchel, Michelle Messenger Garrett, Rene Dupont, and me over at #CommProsChat every Wednesday, 3p./2p.
Well said
Great summary!
Thank you for your words! 👏
PR is great for links - the hardest thing in SEO... links. Good PR = good links, it’s the most difficult and challenging part of digital marketing
This is the way 👊

3yThat is extremly on point. I was considering being a manager hard and stressfull the best years of my career. But getting to know more about MARKETING as my daughter is in PR & especially about sales (from another and deeper perspective) I can totally agree on this post👏
