This year during the annual gathering of the World Economic Forum in #Davos, I'll be working with our industry leaders and regulators on the topics that will reshape our digital landscape. This landscape is like our world – parts of it are safe, but others, not so much. To make our world safer, we must be brave and redefine a few rules: Safety Tech: An Uncharted Territory 👩💻 Our digital existence has evolved, but our focus on safety lags behind. While businesses prioritize analytics, cybersecurity, and privacy, safety tech is often overlooked. This oversight is unfortunately understandable, as safety isn't perceived as directly impacting the bottom line. However, as Gen-AI content and conversational AI is taking a crucial role in product roadmaps and the cost of an unsafe environment - mistrust and fear- is becoming a topic of discussion in board rooms - It's time to rethink and rewrite the rules. Safety tech must become a non-negotiable part of every product development strategy. By innovating in safety, we create an environment where everyone can thrive. Media Literacy: The New Math 👩🔬 In the same way we teach math to kids to help them navigate the world, we must teach media literacy to help them navigate the online world. This is not a luxury; it's a necessity. Think of it as the "new math." Our world is saturated with information, misinformation, and everything in between. Learning to discern truth from deceit is as fundamental as learning addition or subtraction. Governments, schools, and tech giants need to partner to make this a reality. It's a long road, but the stakes are too high to ignore. Clear Rules: No More Guessing Games 📏 The current rules of the online world are ambiguous, with vague guidelines on "hate," "terrorism," and "disinformation." It's a guessing game. We need to get real and address the elephant in the room. Regulations shouldn't be riddles. Instead of asking tech companies to aim for nebulous "best efforts," we should give them clear targets. Clear rules mean everyone knows what's at stake and how to achieve compliance. 🌍 Online safety isn't someone else's problem – it's ours. We all have a responsibility to make our world safer. This requires courage: the courage to integrate safety tech, the courage to teach media literacy and the courage to set clear rules. Change is possible. It's challenging, but we are up to the task. Let's take these steps forward, together. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and it's our move now. #trustandsafety #aisafety
