This is a HUGE win in the fight to end impaired driving! We will continue to push for safer roads across the country, one law at a time ❤️ 🖤
Today, we marked the beginning of a new day in Maryland.. on October 1st, new laws will become effective that will require drivers with a DUI or DWI and who receive a probation before judgment (PBJ), certain first-time offenders, to be required to have ignition interlock devices installed. For years, “Noah’s Law”, passed in honor of Officer Noah Leotta who was killed by an impaired driver, required offenders to have these devices. However, there was a loophole. Thousands of first-time offenders were not required to have these devices, allowing them in far too many cases to re-offend. This fix to “Noah’s Law” means that thousands of first-time DUI offenders will have to address their behavior by using ignition interlock devices. The fix to Noah’s Law was passed earlier this year thanks to Del. Vanessa Atterbeary, Sen. Jeff Waldstreicher, Chairman William C. Smith, Jr., Esq.; MVA Administrator Christine Nizer; Maryland victims and survivors especially the family of Noah Leotta, Vickie Brown; WASHINGTON REGIONAL ALCOHOL PROGRAM; AAA Mid States; Smart Start, Inc. Responsibility.org; Bill Bronrott; our Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) team; and so many more who joined us today and over the years to save more lives. #maryland #dui #saferroads #endimpaireddriving

3wI absolutely love this! My son was struck and killed while offering roadside assistance 4 years ago by an impaired driver! I hope this enhancement of this law brings about much needed change! Congratulations 🙏
