I don't share internal communications, as we place a very high degree of value on transparency at Allbirds and that requires discretion. But today's ruling at the US Supreme Court was emotional for me, and I'm guessing it was for many of our employees. We employ hundreds of people across many states, each of which will now have their own laws. Alongside Tim Brown, and our leadership team, I shared the message below with the Flock today. Dear ‘Birds, Abortion rights is not a topic that we express outwardly as a brand, but it is one that directly affects the rights and lives of our employees, and hence, we want to address this directly and quickly. Tomorrow, over half our country will wake up with fewer rights than the day before, or even decades ago. This feels counter to the progress for equity and self-autonomy we expect and demand. There are dozens of states that will enact laws that will legally prohibit abortion, some as soon as today. We have stores and employees in these states, and our first priority is to consider and care for the members of our Flock. If you are an employee who would like to seek an abortion, we will support you in that effort. Should you have to incur travel to reach a state that legally allows an abortion and you would like to exercise your right to do so, we will cover your travel cost to ensure that you can make the decision that is right for you. We will also cover costs for someone to travel with you, and to cover any child care you need during that time. Please reach out to your People business partner to talk through options or organize this support. Lastly, we recognize that this may be a moment where you feel helpless, angry or saddened by this decision and what it means as a loss of autonomy and a step backwards in the fight for equality. Next week, the Ladybirds ERG will host a forum to discuss the impact of this and simply provide a safe space to express your views. Information for the online forum will be shared on Monday. We also remind you that our nonprofit donation matching program is available, and there are wonderful organizations that fight to protect abortion rights that qualify for this option. In Solidarity, Tim & Joey
Oh for the freedom in our little country of New Zealand. How does USA get it so wrong.
Exemplary company understanding.
How do your prolife employees feel?
Joseph, abortion is the pressing issue. But the more fundamental principle, that the government has the right to determine or legislate what you can and cannot do with your body is even more frightening. Fundamentally, the government is denying body autonomy. And that is what must be recognized.
Yet you expressed yourself outwardly on LinkedIn.
How the hell does this impact the fight for equality?
Just sold all my stock and I’m pro choice. You shouldn’t try to gain Free PR points off of controversial politics. It’s sad that businesses do this during trying times in an attempt to gain financially. Don’t forget to tell everyone that all healthcare costs are fully tax deductible and your just writing this all off 👍🏻
This is beautifully written. What happened to separation of church and state. Sad day for our country.

1yThis is incredibly supportive, but it still requires a woman to talk to HR or similar to arrange this financial support. This takes a private medical decision and makes it public to some degree. The fact that women have to address this with their employer or anyone other than their doctor is an issue.
