While I generally prefer to see career public servants fill these senior diplomatic roles, I believe former Premier John Horgan will do an excellent job representing our country as Canada's Ambassador to Germany.
Readers will recall that Germany Chancellor Olaf Scholz made a special trip to Canada hoping as a Reuters’ news report put it that “a democratic G7 ally would one day ship his country liquefied natural gas to replace Russian gas imports.” The federal obsession with its global warming ambitions has effectively put the block to the development of oil and gas, and cut Canada out of any arrangements to help those European states who, foolishly, put their energy needs under the dictatorial thumb of Vladimir Putin. Perhaps John Horgan can develop a ‘business case’ for Canadian exports of LNG to Germany, or maybe not?
I was pleased to hear this news, as it would seem to indicate that Mr. Horgan is in good health these days. If he does anywhere near as effective a job as Gary Doer did during his term as Ambassador to the U.S., Canada will be very well served.
When a "dick" is sitting on the top of the rung, who, as an amb-ass-ador(e), can make a difference?
An enlightened choice at an important time. Canada will be well-represented.
I didn’t realize he had the heritage of Hunka in him?
Well said. John Horgan has an engaging personality, resilience and a great work ethic. Good luck to him.
I think this is a brilliant appointment! Good for Canada and for Germany.
Politics aside, a great guy
A generous and thoughtful assessment, Jock, and something I have come to expect from you.

4moLet me get this right. The terminally socialist Canada decides to send a "red peril", climate alarmist to represent us with a valued ally who we chose to ignore when they came seeking assistance? This will end well........Canadian dysfunction at its best.
