👋Excited to share my latest project on LinkedIn! I've been busy building a small local #LM rig to test various models at my desk, and the results are exceeding expectations! Here are the specs: Supermicro H12SSL-i AMD #EPYC Rome Processor 256GB SK hynix ECC RAM Dual Intel Corporation U.2 400GB NVMe drives via onboard SlimSAS 8i Toshiba XG6 500GB M.2 MSI GeForce Expert RTX 4080 Super Dual 25GB Broadcom NIC PC Power Cooling Crossfire 750W PSU (10 years old, but one of my favorites. Nice and stable 12v rails) Various Noctua 60mm fans for optimal cooling I started with #Windows 10 and #WSL2 for GPU accelerated #Linux workloads and #Docker images. You just need to install the #CUDA and #cuDNN libraries and you are all set. The performance and ease of use is actually pretty good! I am also using it to accelerate editing and encode/decode operations in general. I'm currently cutting cables back and cleaning things up a bit and hope to have everything done soon. Nothing brings happiness like a shiny new NVIDIA RTX 4080 Super! I'm a big fan of open air cases - no tight corners, and everything is easy to access and see. You just have to be conscious of cooling. I did some soldering to accommodate the 3 x 6 pin connectors, and it worked flawlessly. The Rig: - Custom cut aluminum chassis and 1/4" plexiglass rear panel - GIGABYTE MC13-LEO - AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8 Core Processor - Noctua low profile heatsink and fan - 128GB ECC DDR5 - Seagate Technology Firecuda NVMe 2TB M.2 - Dual 8TB Micron Technology SATA SSD I'll probably replace the #Ryzen with an #EPYC 4004 soon since the latest firmware now supports that transition. #TechEnthusiast #NVIDIA #RTX4080Super #OpenAirCase #ContentCreation #PCBuild #TechUpgrade

For #Windows users, here are some great tools to enhance your OS privacy and get the upper hand on what information is being shared. 1) O&O ShutUp10++**: https://lnkd.in/eR2DyhCU Here’s why I frequently recommend it: - No installation required - Recommended settings that usually will not break things - Creates a system restore point you can revert to if something goes wrong - User-friendly UI - Freeware! Very important: Don't forget to re-run these tools after major system updates, as some settings are switched back on. 2) Win Debloat Tools: https://lnkd.in/edxMrJQ6 A good set of Powershell scripts with a nice little UI to help ease some of the necessary services running in Windows. Like the OO tool, it is easy to use and offers a roll back option as well. If you are inclined, you can also tweak the #Powershell scripts as needed. 3) Glasswire. https://www.glasswire.com Microsoft Windows firewall is woefully inadequate. GlassWire adds a level of traffic visibility with other great options like Virustotal scores and user scoring so you can quickly identify bad actor apps. It also has other great features like top talker sorting, geo tracking, network scanning and in-depth traffic analysis. Note: I ALWAYS add another layer of visibility on my egress, so I recommend setting something like #FreeBSD up with a simple #PF config and #NTOPNG so you can see all traffic flows going in and out of your network. This helps to corollate things and you can quickly lock things down on the egress/ingress for all your systems. Important: I also recommend using PF tables with good quality blacklists like #Firehol's: https://lnkd.in/ezkWDSq7 Disclaimer: Any of these tools can break your system if you are not careful. In the coming week, I will be publishing an in-depth article detailing the steps to build a low-cost Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF). When properly constructed, this space is fully isolated from RF signals and other interference. Essentially, the design is akin to a large Faraday Cage. I'm about 90% through the project, and the results have been fantastic. Once the door closes, all cell phone signals vanish, including the lower frequency bands like LTE band 12 (700MHz) and band 71, which are typically known for their ability to penetrate obstacles. Check out some progress pictures below! I’ve experimented with various materials to find the most effective ones, and I’ll be sharing detailed insights highlighting each step of the process I took to construct the room. Some quick tips: ✅A good quality spectrum analyzer is a must through this process. Don't bother without one. Remember, 5G NR uses much higher frequencies on the spectrum so ensure your analyzer covers those as well! ✅Building this requires multiple layers of material with precision. Even a 3mm gap in the material can cause leakage. ✅All shielding materials must have folded seams and be constructed in a way the coverage is continuous without any gaps. Don't forget about the floor! ✅Shield both the inside and outside of the enclosure. ✅Use Faraday tape on all folded seams when complete. ✅Ground your shielding materials! This is mainly for safety. You want a breaker to trip if they are accidentally energized! A SCIF is no good if it burns your house down.🔥 Ultimately, this room will be Metify's soundproofed studio we will be using to showcase our bare metal provisioning product, perform secure OEM hardware tests and conduct independent RF testing on specific compartmentalized equipment. Blast from the past! I was combing through some old pictures and saw this one of the VMX2000 Wasabi Systems hybrid storage appliance. While at Wasabi Systems, we were building out a small #NetBSD storage distro that ran on a SATA DOM. It was a pretty revolutionary product at the time with some great features! #Phoronix posted the latest PTSI benchmarks for FreeBSD 14.1 and the performance gains are impressive. Notably, in H264/H265 encoding, FreeBSD 14.1 outperformed Ubuntu and CentOS Stream 9 by nearly 22%. FreeBSD 14.1 also excelled in ray tracing, with the C-Ray multi-threaded ray-tracer delivering superior results in both 4K and 1080p compared to CentOS Stream and Ubuntu. Additional benchmarks highlighted significant improvements in prime number calculations and various Stress-ng tests, where FreeBSD 14.1 also edged out its competitors. This is shaping up to be a great FreeBSD release.
