🚀 From Celebration to Realization: A Startup Story
A few weeks ago, our team at Freekey AI got the news every founder dreams of —
“You’ve been selected for the incubation program!”
We were told that if selected, we’d receive a ₹30 lakh non-equity grant — no strings attached, just pure support to help Indian startups grow.
There were multiple rounds, each one feeling like an exam.
Every time an email came, we whispered a prayer —
“Bas iss baar clear ho jaye.” 🙏
And finally… we did.
Out of 3,400 startups, Freekey AI got selected.
That moment — we felt proud, validated, and deeply thankful.
We shared the news with our colleagues, our families, our mentors — it was one of those “we’re doing something right” moments.
But then came the agreement.
Hidden in the fine print was a clause:
👉 “Startups shall give 2.5% equity to participate.”
No mention of the promised grant.
No confirmed funding.
Just “access to network, space, and potential funding opportunities.”
Now — 2.5% is not the issue.
Every startup founder knows the value of partnership and collaboration.
The issue was transparency.
How can we build trust if the very foundation of support starts with an unexpected demand — before we even receive value in return?
All the excitement faded in a moment.
We decided to say no.
Not because we didn’t value their network,
but because we value our integrity — and what’s fair.
Sometimes, the toughest “No” is the one that saves your “Yes” for something bigger.
Government-backed programs often claim to support startups.
But true support isn’t about taking equity —
it’s about believing in founders, trusting their vision, and helping them grow without hidden conditions.
We’ll keep building Freekey AI, brick by brick,
with the same honesty, purpose, and faith that got us this far.
Because every founder deserves fair support, not fine print surprises.
💬 I’d love to hear from other founders —
Have you faced something similar?
Do you think this is the right way to “support” Indian startups?
