"Ne soyons pas les témoins impuissants…"  “Let us not be… powerless and defenseless witnesses facing a world that we believed belonged to the past and let us remain vigilant in defending our democratic values.”  Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel opened the “OECD Global Forum on Building Trust and Reinforcing Democracy” this morning with those powerful words.  His words challenge us to ask ourselves: what we are doing – at a personal and governmental level – to defend our shared values and democratic institutions?   The OECD is proud to be one of those working hard to make a difference. Today’s Global Forum will provide a unique opportunity to bring together hundreds of diverse voices – from governments, civil society, academia, business, and beyond – to collectively reflect on how we can strengthen and deepen our democracies.  Tomorrow’s OECD Public Governance Ministerial meeting will discuss concrete actions countries can take to deepen and protect their democratic institutions.    These important discussions will be underpinned by the report we are launching today "Building Trust and Reinforcing Democracy: Preparing the Ground for Government Action". The report looks at five key challenges to our institutions and proposes actions to help governments meet them: 1.   combating mis- and disinformation 2.   ensuring representation, participation and openness in public life 3.   embracing the global responsibilities of government and building resilience to foreign influence 4.   governing green 5.   transforming public governance for digital democracy   To quote Prime Minister Bettel again : “Making democracy flourish requires commitment, dedication and long-term work.” Indeed, the OECD, through its Reinforcing Democracy Initiative, stands ready to work with countries every step of the way as they strive to build more responsive and resilient democracies that deliver better lives for their citizens.   To learn more 👉 https://lnkd.in/ecu4HVfG To read the report 👉 https://lnkd.in/eibbr89T #democracy #democracymatters #reinforcingdemocracy #misdisinfo

It is a wonderful initiative. But, he will encounter difficulties. It is difficult to assemble different collective mentalities belonging to different cultures that do not all aim at the naturalness of European values. To make us think. I do not represent any institution - I represent myself and I think many others from the Romanian academic environment. Respectfully!
